Meet Lindy Kurtz | Farmer & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindy Kurtz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is not who I am. But, I have found that taking risks in my business has proved mostly beneficial. One example, I get a little hesitant when trying a new jacket style. Will customers love it? Will I be stuck with it? I’ve found that people love unique and different. So now, I aim to grab those more rare jacket styles and customers go nuts over them. It’s rewarding to feel their excitement after the anxiety of taking that risk. I would say my business is built on being unique and different, just like each of us have been made. So I love having a variety of jackets available that compliment each person’s choice and personality. Creating customs pieces as unique as you!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Social media mostly knows me for being the girl that makes jackets. Off screen, I’m a fourth generation farmer here in southeastern Pennsylvania. That’s my priority everyday and where I find my joy and passion. I add a touch of farming here and there to social media. I sometimes hang products on gates, silos or barn walls – you don’t see that every day in product photos! My followers love when the goats appear in my reels or I do my weekly updates on what’s happening on the farm.
I’ve been told that my content is refreshing, real and inspiring. I want to be set apart from others on social media. It seems these days that everyone wants to follow the trends and be like the next person. Why? Sometimes I try to make reels that are just real, my Real Reels. Real life, real thoughts, real things that usually results in my followers being relieved to hear something said. You don’t feel so alone then, some things just aren’t said or shown on social media.
The grit and determination it takes to farm every day has helped me face challenges in my business. There will be days when you want to call it quits, give up and maybe find another thing to be good at. The storm will pass, and hopefully, you learn something from going through that challenge. There’s been lots and lots of lessons learned along the way, as in life and running any business. If I would have known everything I’d have to do to run this business, and, all the not-so-fun things that can come along with it, I wouldn’t have started. I’ve had to learn everything on my own. I’m glad no one prepared me and I jumped right in! Definitely not what I do, but wow, it’s been an amazing adventure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well. thankfully my best friend and I live 5 minutes apart in the same town, so I’ll share some of the things we do around here. There’s honestly nothing to do in our small town, except shop, eat, get gas and a hair cut. Good thing we can still make a good time of it!
Our meals for the week would consist of tailgating in our trucks at Sonic, grabbing pizza at one of the three pizza shops, stopping by a restaurant on wing night, or maybe grabbing a McDonald’s bundle box and kicking back at her place.
Neither of us are a fan of people, so our hang out spots are where people aren’t! We might take a walk through our local state park, take an evening drive and spot deer, or shoot bows in the backyard. If our trip was in the fall, we’d spend time in the woods hunting together or putting up more trail cameras. Our evenings would end, sitting in one of our driveways, talking about life and the future, or maybe the newest big buck that came through our properties.
Well, if you’re looking for an interesting place, Walmart might peak your interest. Quite the place with interesting people no matter the day or time. If you’re looking for a real answer, driving back roads, or even our main road, will provide you with beautiful scenery most times of the year. Our area is spotted with family farms, so rolling fields or farmers working their fields isn’t an uncommon sight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Two people need recognition here. First, I wouldn’t be where I was without the Lord. He has provided for me in so many ways with this business, far beyond I could’ve ever asked or dreamed. He has taught me lessons and also brought many amazing people and relationships into my life. Everyday I have to lean into Him and trust his Will for my life and business.
Second person I’d like to shoutout is my Mom. I became an entrepreneur at age 14 because of her. She helped me start my first business and walked with me every step of the way. I learned important skills, many of which help me today. I bounce ideas off of her and talk through situations I’m facing, it’s always good to have her help me still.
