We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
**** What makes you happy?

Being able to create every day lights me up. I’m grateful to have continuous creative outlets through my writing, authoring children’s books and leading creative journaling workshops. I’m happiest when I can share the tool of writing as an outlet for others and when I connect with readers on a mindful level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of my diverse writing range. I began in newspaper reporting and moved on to travel guides and magazine writing. Today, I’m authoring children’s books and a Colorado guidebook for parents who like to get off the beaten path and discover new hikes, attractions and mom-and-pop restaurants (The No Bullsh*t Guide to Colorado!) with their kiddos.

I’m really looking forward to my next journey teaching Creative Journaling for Healing workshops. The few I’ve hosted so far have been impactful and rewarding. I love sharing the tool of journaling to help others release stuck energy and emotions. It’s beautiful to see others work through trauma and feel lighter and freer on the other side.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many options! I’d start with a concert at Red Rocks or a Rockies game. Definitely squeeze in as many hikes as possible and mountain biking around Frisco and Breckenridge with a stop at the Frisco marina for paddleboarding and tiki drinks. In Denver, we’d hit Sushi Den and Meow Wolf, a yoga class or two, bop down to Garden of the Gods and up to the Poudre Canyon for rafting and hiking. A dip in Cottonwood Hot Springs or Iron Mountain Hot Springs and a road trip down to Ouray and Telluride would be on the list!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and son lift me up and share in my creative bursts. Their love and support is so genuine and important to me. They proof my books and articles. They say their gratitudes with me and help me write books about loving yourself. They’re always game for restaurant and hike research when I’m writing a Colorado family fun article or a piece for my road-trip restaurant dining series.
