Meet Lisa Day | Owner, Baker and Cake Designer, Cottage Creations Custom Confections

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel that there are two aspects that are essential to our success.

Focus on our clients, their needs and satisfaction, is paramount to Cottage Creations Cakes success. People want customization and personal touches for their cakes. It is our job to work with them to make their vision come to life, to execute a design that adds an extra special element to their event. We strive to create cakes that are a joy to look at and even better to eat.

Secondly, continual learning and growth in the field is extremely important. There is never time to sit back and think “I’ve got this.” There are always new and different techniques to put into practice. I think staying on top of the game by constant study is vital.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Cottage Creations we strongly believe that there is no substitute for quality. It is paramount to us that all our custom products should not just look amazing but also taste amazing! We are committed to using high quality ingredients and time honored baking methods to ensure that all our desserts taste as good as they look.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Bailey Colorado, entertaining visitors is never difficult! This is such a beautiful area and we have so many fun activities, both outdoors and indoors. Hiking and possibly camping in our magnificent forest would be a must. Of course, a stop by Platte River Outfitters prior to our outdoor activities would necessary to make sure we had all the needed gear for our outdoor excursions. I would definitely take them to the Sasquatch Outpost to visit the Sasquatch Encounter Discovery Museum. It is a fun place to spend an afternoon and a must-see for anyone who has any interest in Bigfoot!
Also, I would highly encourage them to come in late June so that they could attend Bailey Days. This is a monumentally fun event put on by our local Platte Canyon Chamber of Commerce. In addition to hosting over 100 artisans, vendors and food stalls they also have great music preformed by a host of wonderful bands. The “cherry on the cake” for Bailey Days is always the live performances from the Park County Regulators who do a series of wild west, cowboy action shows throughout the entire event. I would highly encourage anyone within driving distance of Bailey to attend. I don’t think they have announced the exact dates for June of 2023 yet but you can always check in on the Platte Canyon Chamber’s Facebook page or website for future information closer to summer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Firstly. I owe a great deal to my parents. They gave me the opportunity, as a child, to live in many places internationally. This instilled in me a great respect, and love for, other cultures and their cuisines. They also taught me the immense value in continually learning. Both of these aspects have been very important to the growth of Cottage Creations. Secondly, none of this could have been possible without the loving and fearless support of my partner and husband. Not only is he a great source of solicited critique, but he has also put in countless hours of help with various events, deliveries and other needed tasks.
