We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz McCann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, how do you think about risk?
Deciding to open your own business is a very scary thing. There have been several times where I have wanted to give up and quit. When I decided to start my own business, I knew I was taking a huge risk. I weighed the pros and cons several times. Fortunately, the business I opened was in the same field as my career. I continue to work in the hospital as a nurse until my business becomes more profitable. I decided that I would take the risk of starting my own business and just go for it. I knew it would be difficult but I was ready for the challenge and hard work. I knew that if I didn’t do it, that I would regret it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a nurse for 5 years. I started my career in an LTAC which is a long term acute care hospital. In addition to owning and managing my own business, I work at Denver Health in the Eating Disorders Unit. I love my work at Denver Health. Although it is extremely challenging, I love the population I work with. Before I was a nurse, I was a server for several years. I believe being a server provided me with the opportunity to develop great customer service skills which are essential in my profession. I have worked extremely hard to become the person and professional that I am today and I continue to learn how to better serve others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can’t visit Colorado without seeing the mountains. I was born and raised in Boulder which has the most amazing views of the mountains, specifically the Flatirons  (where the name of my business comes from). You also have to visit Red Rocks and dine at Casa Bonita now that it is open again.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Staughton has been my number one supporter throughout this. He talks me through the hard times and is always providing me with positive encouragement. I could not have done any of this without him. Also my son Camden. When I am upset, he is always there to give me hugs and bring me our dogs for support. I would also like to give a shout out to my friends, family, work colleagues, and my rep and friend Hannah Poeckes. Many of them have let me practice new services on them and have become clients and have also helped me with marketing. I want to thank Heather Smith, Alexis Biles and Rita Manaugh who are other nurse injectors that have helped me through starting my business.
