We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorenzo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I heard the call when i was young and answered it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So much to cover, I was drawn to a creative life early. My only goal then was how can i be creative and earn my living that way. My current work has evolved and i hope will continue to evolve. I follow what i find interesting and pursue that for as long as i love it. Follow your passion and heart and the support will appear. I was told early that it takes about ten years to become professional as an artist i found that to be true. It was not easy to pursue the fine arts but it was and it still is an inspiring and fulfilling adventure. The lessons learned along the way are many. I teach art via the Arts Students League of Denver and Landscape painting workshop around the country. I teach the lessons i learned that help me build a successful foundation for creating paintings. My brand is my love of the landscape, history and people of the Great American West.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Many artist friends visit and we goo to the Denver Art Museum and The American Museum of Western Art both in Denver. Trips into the Mountain Country are always inspiring and yield much inspiration for painting. So many great restaurants around Colorado with local flavor. Check out the fine art gallery scene in Colorado. Lots of great and interesting works created by local artists. We love to visit the historic places around Colorado so many to enjoy. We always enjoy time visiting Family and artists friends.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Dolores. She has been supportive from the day we met in the early 1980’s. with out her support I would be nowhere.

One of the Best! Incredible teacher and artist. He has become an art friend. I bought one of his paintings. I study it and look at all the brushwork and color! I too love our landscape. I love when he comes and works with us in Palo Duro Canyon. I’ve never met his wife but hope she knows how thankful I am that she has helped this man become a great teacher and has so generously shared him with the art community.
