Meet Luis Gonzalez | Woodworking

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Prior to starting my own business I was working in security. I had a son who was 4 and 1 year old. My 4 old had just recently been diagnosed with with autism and my wife was really struggling and would call in tears as our son would go running into traffic or opening doors while the car was moving. I loved my career but knew that I needed something more flexible to help my wife and son. I had never done woodworking before but saw pictures of flags and gave it a try. I am self taught and once I started it I was hooked and loved working with my hands. I was also able to be home more and help my family at this difficult time.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is LG wood studio. I am a perfectionist and each project that I build comes with attention to every detail. I am most proud of the projects I’ve created and that if I haven’t done a project I am always willing to try and push myself to learn new skills. My business has been lucky enough to sell out of the local in Parker and the emporium in castle rock and then through word of mouth or Facebook. This has not been an easy journey as when the economy struggles it impacts a business like mine that is not a necessity but more of a luxury. We have learned what craft fairs or venues have been most beneficial for our business and continue to learn through trial and error. I’ve learned that this business is not always easy but I would not want to be doing anything else. Lg wood studio is a family business. My wife helps with the advertising and emails and administrative work. When you buy a product from us it is helping support a family of 5,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife and family deserves all of the credit for my story. My family bought all of my tools to help the business get going. My wife has supported me through each step and the struggles that come with a small business and the unknown that goes along with it.
