Meet Luke Garrett | Owner of Freedom Construction and Painting, LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
Muhammad Ali
I live by this quote in every aspect of life and my business. After serving in the Marine Corps I knew I wanted a life that would allow me to chase my dreams and push myself while having a work/life balance for my family. I took a risk starting my own painting business a few months before my daughter was born. My wife and I knew it would be a slow start on income until my reputation and work ethic spread, but we only focused on the positives it could bring. Now after 6 years my LLC has grown from painting on my own to owning a successful construction company offering residential and commercial builds and remodels with a full crew.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a young business owner is not always easy. My work ethic, skills, knowledge, and competency has all had to be proven the past 6 years. One thing that I pride myself on is my determination to never leave a job site until the customer is happy. The 3 core values of the Marine Corps, honor, courage, and commitment, are values I have instilled within my business and is what has made it successful. Honoring the word I give my customers that the job will be completed to a higher standard, having the courage to learn new skills and offer new services, and being fully committed not only to my customers, but to my family and employees.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Finding entertainment in a small town is much different than the big cities. When a few of my brothers from the 3rd CEB visited a few years ago, we found light in enjoying the small things….roasting marshmallows over a fire pit, hunting, and riding off road vehicles. My wife and I enjoy going to the local Peerless Theater for movies and eating out at the local family owned restaurants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of our community, my wife, family, and friends. Being able to continue to run a successful small business for many years to come is all due to a community supporting locally. Even if someone hasn’t hired me for their project, it means a lot to see people share my Facebook posts and recommend me for a job. I owe so much to our community for allowing me to grow my business and do what I love.
