We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynn White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is ubiquitus. Every day we are faced with risk. Just leaving our house or even staying home. It’s true in life and in work. However, accepting risk is essential for real change and impact. Every major decision I’ve ever made has come with enormous risk. The real trick is to know that risk exists. Once you identify what the possibilities for risk are, you can take steps to mitigate that risk.
What should our readers know about your business?
A lot of small nonprofits struggle every day to gain the resources to carry out their mission, and we are no exception. We depend on the generosity of the public and constantly look for ways to get the word out about the great work we are doing. This is an all-hands-on-deck-every-day organization; a tight-knit group of individuals committed to end the suffering of cats in our community. Without their heart and their dedication we would not have the successes that we have had. 50,000 spay/neuter surgeries over the last 20 years! And, while challenging at times, having a small organization also gives us the opportunity to make thoughtful decisions about how we place the animals in our care. We dilligently review applications for adoption and pair the cat or kitten with the family and environment that should be most mutually beneficial. Preventing future relinquishments is one of the key reasons we have been so successful in finding so many fur-ever homes for animals which would otherwise live a miserable existence outside. Every animal is an individual and we pride ourselves on recognizing the personality and needs of each furry face that comes through our doors.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, of course, I would take them to The Feline Fix to see our facility! We would also go into the mountains and go camping or visit a small mountain town. Ski if it was in winter and rafting if it was in summer. There are a lot of really good restaurants in Denver. And we might go to City Park play a game of volleball or two.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our organization has been around, in one iteration or another, for 20 years. There have been countless brave, committed people who contributed to the work we do, and I think about those people in every challenge and in every success. Just last year, we reached 50,000 spay/neuter surgeries! There are many people who have and who continue to support the idea that no cat should suffer.
