Meet Maddy Aucoin | Copywriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddy Aucoin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddy, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Don’t be afraid to quit things that aren’t working for you.
From a young age, we’re taught to view quitting as the worst thing we can do. We’re taught to persevere, fight, and do everything we can to keep going with whatever path we choose.
In reality, quitting things you don’t love can be one of the best things you can do for your business. I’ve quit everything from offering certain services to quitting my first business entirely. I didn’t start my business to hate what I do, and I’m sure most people don’t either! Quitting things you don’t love, even the small things, can get *that* much closer to having a business you absolutely love.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Like many business owners, I fell into entrepreneurship in 2020 and had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
After running that business for 18 months, I closed my online doors in early 2022 after dealing with burnout, stress, and exhaustion that comes from running a handmade business during a pandemic and parenting a toddler.
I knew I had to make a pivot somewhere, but I had absolutely no idea where to go next.
People have always complimented how real my business presence online was. Every part of my personality shone through on my socials, my website, and beyond– and that’s how I gained such an engaged, connected audience who wanted to own everything I sold. I did some research (and a lot of soul-searching), and decided to pivot to copywriting. Honestly, it makes perfect sense with my love of writing, my background in research and strategy, and my obsession with really good marketing.
As a copywriter, I really excel in writing copy that makes people feel seen and understood. I pride myself in “human-centred marketing”, which means I avoid any scarcity, fear, shame, or other traditional unethical marketing tactics to get people to buy. Instead, I want customers or clients to feel excited and empowered when they buy. As marketers, I believe we all have a part to play in making selling more transparent and ethical. I’m proud to play a part in that!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shout-out to Kayleigh Medeiros. Kayleigh was my first mentor and has taught me so much about entrepreneurship. She’s shown me how important the power of community is and how to infuse your personal values into your business. Her friendship and resourcefulness keep me going on the best and worst days.
