We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline Massingill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeline, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I am a firm believer that if there is still an itch for something even after you’ve failed at it then there is reason to scratch it and try again. When your passion for something has died out it might be time to move on. Fail upward. It’s the only way to learn and grow. Give it a second go and you might just succeed.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I had a rough start in my profession at 18 going through quite the journey of auditioning to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. It was aired on international television and my failure felt heavy on my 18 year old shoulders but I came back to try again at 19 and was labeled the “comeback kid”. I was ready to redeem myself and show others but mostly show myself that I was capable of anything I put my mind to! I cheered for the Dallas Cowboys for 5 years and it was an absolute dream. Now I travel the country and teach studios, high schools and universities as well as pro teams and I am currently the head cheer coach at Pepperdine University. I truly love what I do!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now I’m not from Colorado but I absolutely love visiting! The city has such rich art and culture! I would definitely hit up a show by Cleo Parker Robinson dance Ensemble. So many talented performers. I would have to say Darrell Anderson is one of my favorite artists and he is in Denver so I would definitely be checking to see if his work was at any exhibits or if he had a show.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my mom, seems cliche I’m sure but not only is she my support system as a parent but she is also who taught me everything I know in my profession. She owned a dance studio when I was growing up and the time I spent there (every second I could be there I was) truly shaped who I am as a woman and a dancer. She is also the most thoughtful, selfless human I know.
