We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Vanata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my patients. I believe I am in the business of saving lives. It’s a bold claim – especially for one who practices chiropractic and not emergency medicine. But over the years, I have seen countless sick and suffering people enter through my door. Whether it’s low back pain, debilitating migraines, multiple sclerosis, stage four stomach cancer, or even mysterious conditions no specialist could make a diagnosis on. Although their conditions may vary, their stories rarely do not. Typically, I am the last stop after countless unsuccessful treatments for many of these patients – and often their last hope. What’s great about my work is that I am not the one doing the healing – their body is. My job is to detect and remove neurological interference the patient has and let their body do the rest. I not only define my success on my patient’s physical healing but also seeing them heal as a whole.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Corrective Spinal Care of Colorado. It’s a NUCCA chiropractic office – specialty form of chiropractic. NUCCA stands for National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. NUCCA is a chiropractic technique that focuses on the upper cervical, or upper neck, region of the body. The reason NUCCA focuses up here is because the atlas’, or top bone in the neck, has a close relationship to the brainstem, which sits within. When our body is subjected to different accidents and injuries, it can cause the atlas bone to lose its position and in turn, affect the brain stem. The brainstem supplies virtually everything in the body -such as your heart, your lungs, your mood, your digestive system, your alertness as well as your body’s balance and posture. By correcting the atlas misalignment, pressure is relieved off the brainstem and the body can heal and function optimally.
My dream to open my own business started eight years ago. I was under NUCCA chiropractic care and had it transform my life. NUCCA helped me regain my life by getting me off my ADHD medications – something I didn’t think would ever be possible. ADHD isn’t a deadly diagnosis but for me and many others, it controlled my life. The success from my own healing inspired me enough to become a NUCCA doctor myself. The next year, I enrolled into chiropractic school. It was a grueling and demanding three and a quarter years of my life. I sacrificed a lot of nights out with friends, trips with family, and even at times my own sanity. But I was determined to make it through the program. Nevertheless, I did and graduated. I thought school was going to be the hard part but boy was I wrong. Throughout school, I was planning to work for the doctor who first took care of me – as she promised would happen. A month before graduating, she told me that she couldn’t hire me. I was devastated. My plan to work for her to learn more as well as the business was the next step before opening my own. Without that bridging piece, I was lost. Thankfully I found a job in Colorado looking for an associate doctor and moved out here. During my time as an associate doctor, I experienced many growing pains but ultimately it led to me becoming a more strong and confident doctor. Finally, I felt ready to open my own.
On March 7th 2020, I signed the lease to open my own office. To much of my surprise, the world shut down a week later thanks to COVID. My high hopes on started my own office began to be filled with doubt and fear for the future. But despite the doubts and fears, I had no choice but to move forward which is what I did.
Now I am a year and half into my practice and can honestly say it was the best decision I ever made. My practice has been growing and thriving in these past couple years despite COVID or even a natural disaster. I am thankful I went through to become a chiropractor. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I wouldn’t change a thing. To know how many lives I have helped change for the better is an honor. Sometimes I think if I gave into my uncertainty, how many people would still be sick and suffering.
I hope my story can give someone hope – especially if they need it. Life may not seem fair at times, but in the end things always work out for the best.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough question! I grew up in the Midwest so to come out to Colorado, it’s amazing how many activities there are to do.
Day One – Fort Collins.
Fort Collins was one of the first towns I visited before moving to Colorado and the reason why I am out here. I would start the day with a hike around Horsetooth Reservoir. Then we could walk through Old Town Fort Collins to explore and shop. For lunch, Music City Chicken is a must. Then we would brewery hop at all the local breweries, like Odell’s, New Belgium. We would end the night at Social for cocktails and a charcuterie board.
Day Two – Estes Park
Everyone who comes to Colorado needs to check out Rocky Mountain National Park! To go through the park, I’ve always wanted to horseback ride through it. Then we could spend time checking out the town and getting lunch there. To finish the day, we would have to check out the Stanley Hotel.
Day Three – Golden
The past year I lived in Golden and easily can say it was my favorite town I’ve ever lived in! We would start the day off by renting bikes and riding down Clear Creek Trail. Depending on the season, floating down the Clear Creek river is always fun too. For lunch, we would go to Miner’s Saloon. I love their lunch menu and their cocktails are great. Next we would spend the afternoon at New Terrain Brewery listening to live music and bringing my dog to the dog park next to it. Another spot we could go would be Goosetown Station for their cocktails and live music. For dinner we would go to Sherpa House. Their butter chicken is my favorite!
Day Four – Evergreen
The first year I moved out to Colorado, I would find myself spending almost every weekend here. We would start off the day with a hike whether it’s Mount Falcon or Three Sisters trail. Then for lunch we would have to go to Switchback Smokehouse in Kittredge. For the night we would camp at Echo Lake.
Day Five – Frisco
We would head out to Frisco and spend the day on a boat on Lake Dillon. Afterwards we could go into town for drinks and dinner. To finish the night, see a concert at the Dillon Amphitheater.
Day Six – Boulder
We would start the day off hiking Eldorado Canyon State Park. Then we would go into town and explore Pearl Street. Stop and get some bone broth at Wonder. For lunch, it would either be Curry N Kebob or Fresh Thyme. For dinner I really have wanted to try Basta but I also would plan on going to License Number One in the Boulderado Hotel.
Day Seven – Denver
We would finish the trip in Denver. For lunch, we would go to Quiero Arepas on Pearl Street. We would spend the afternoon walking through the Highlands shopping and going to spots like Happy Camper or My Neighbor Felix. Finish the night by going to Denver Milk Market for dinner.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my former co-worker, Jeannette. Jeannette was the office manager at the chiropractic office I got my first job at as a doctor. I was fairly new to practice and had pretty low confidence in myself. Prior to meeting Jeannette, I didn’t have the best luck in finding a good mentor. Jeannette turned out to be one of the best mentors I could ask for. Jeannette instilled confidence not only in myself as a doctor but as a person. She was able to see the potential within me when I couldn’t. Without Jeannette’s support, I wouldn’t be the doctor and person I am today.
