We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie La Hue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business, Choose You Coaching to give me the opportunity to step into my purpose and serve others. Choosing to open my business felt like the natural next step for me once I knew that coaching was something I enjoyed so much.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love to learn! I have always been driven to be good at what I do and understand myself and others. In 2010, I was introduced to the Klemmer workshops (https://www.klemmer.com/). At the time I was very good at my sales job, but I felt discouraged and lacked self esteem as a mom and a wife. I wrapped my-self worth only in what I accomplished in my career. To the outside world it looked like I was successful, however I did not feel successful. In this journey, I learned so much about myself and others and how I looked at the world. I believe this journey led me to discover my purpose in life.
It took me a little while to have the courage to start my own business. One day a very good friend of mine asked me, “what will it cost the world if you do not follow your dream and purpose in life?” This question really opened my heart and spurred the inspiration to start my coaching business, Choose You Coaching.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was taking the action to get started. I was afraid of not having clients, not knowing what to charge, not having a location to work from, and all those self limiting beliefs popped up for me again. How I overcame these was by checking in with myself and using the tools I learned. I asked for help, which was a big step in itself for me. I reached out to other coaches and got support from other business owners. I also joined a networking group. Joining the Biz to Biz networking group helped me build my confidence in speaking and cultivated fantastic business relationships. The networking group is filled with other small business owners and we all support and mentor each other. I highly recommend every business owner to join one.
When I am asked what sets my life coaching business apart from others, what comes up is that I offer “Me”, There is no other Maggie La Hue. My style of coaching is that YOU have the answers to your life or the resources to find the answers. I get to help you connect with those answers through reflective questions. When coaching with me, you get to uncover the areas of your life that you are blocked in. You get to become curious and discover what limiting beliefs are keeping you stuck in the same patterns of life that do not serve you. You are the expert in your life; not me. When we coach together you get to go on a journey of discovery and learn to take action giving you the opportunity to shift your life in a more effective way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would for sure visit my favorite coffee shops: Copeka and Fourwinds Coffee and Tea. Then, I would make sure we went hiking in the Colorado National Monument. We would spend some time painting at Fat Cat Pottery and The Pallet and shop at some of the very fun local shops in town like The Hartmann Farmhouse, Rebel Treasures, and Taylor’s Croft. We would spend time at Corn Lake and walk along the Riverbend trail alongside the Colorado River. There is always something fun going on in Grand Junction, Palisade, and Fruita.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to credit and thank the Klemmer, Leadership and Character Development workshops and training for where I am today. Working with the amazing Klemmer community has been a huge part of my growth and development. I am a certified Klemmer Coach and I use their principles and language every day. My husband Devlin La Hue is also a huge support to me and encourages me to be true to who I am and supports me in helping so many others.
