Meet Mallory Choate | Registered Dietiitan & Nutrition Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mallory Choate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mallory, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance is such a tricky concept – which is why I focus on it so much in my work! I have always been a very type-A, achiever type of gal, so I’ve done my fair share of working multuple jobs at a time, being a full time student while working full time, building my business while working another job, and adding a thousand things to my plate at once. After facing severe burnout multiple times in my 20’s, I am so intentional with creating boundaries around work. both with my business and with other aspects of my life. It has taken a lot of practice to find balance in an ever-changing schedule, so I focus on a couple of non-negotiables for that season of my life and let everything else be secondary. This is something I work on with my clients so often. Burnout is so common for so many women, but definitely should not be “normal.” Finding a balance in the season of life you’re in, knowing that it will change as life enevitably does, and allowing for flexibility, are all key in creating a unique balance that fits for you. If I could give one mantra to support my approach to balance it would be – “I can do anything, just not everything.”

What should our readers know about your business?
As a Registered Dietitian, my mission is to help others better understand nutrition and make balanced eating easier, more realistic, and sustainable for life. I started my private practice to fill a gap I saw in the nutrition field – finding balance between food freedom and using nutrition to pursue health and wellness goals. I work with busy, burnt-out women who are tired of just surviving the day, and are ready to thrive in their life. By helping my clients improve their eating habits to support their physical and mental health, build supportive lifestyle habits, and working with them to find a balance that works for their unique life, they are able to stress less over food, feel confident in their choices, and feel more in control of their health and well-being. We live in a world of glorified hustle-culture and a constant competition of who can do more, or who is more exhausted, and this pressure is causing serious health problems, especially among high-achieving women. As a fellow busy-bee, it is my goal to be the support that these women need to fuel their bodies, beat out stress and anxiety, and say “goodbye” to burnout for good.
What sets me apart is my balanced, non-diet approach to nutrition. I believe in complete food freedom in the pursuit of health, and coupling that freedom with the reality of the goals you have. There is no “one size fits all” diet or approach to wellness. Nutrition is so personal whichis why it can feel so diffcult to find what works for you! I help my clients find that unique fit that works for their lives, and not for just 8 weeks, but for life. I also walk the walk! I have a hectic work schedule, train for marathons for fun, and have a family at home to care for. It’s important to me to live by example and be the proof that there is a better way to live than stressed out, tired, and overworked.
I have learned so much over the last 10+ years of pursuing my career, building my business, and growing in my own passions. The biggest lesson that stands out in my mind is to unapologetically follow your gut and stand by what you believe in.
Some of the work I am most proud of has been partnering with local communities here in Denver. I have worked with many local athletic groups including Pure Barre, E3 Fitness, UC Health, the Denver Broncos Organization, and the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, in multiple opportunities to speak with women about nutrition.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie was coming into town, I’d make sure she packed 90% activewear because my favorite way to show off Colorado is to get outdoors and be active! I would make sure we get in a day trip to Pikes Peak, my favorite mountain to be on, to hike on Barr trail or get a quick trip up the incline. I also love bringing friends to gyms in town for group classes! A couple of my favorites are Fierce45 for pilates, Viv cycle for cycling, Transform Colorado for climbing, and Traverse Fitness for HIIT. After all of that activity, we’ve got to refuel at some of my favorite places to eat! Resturants I would make sure we hit would have to include Work and Class in RiNo, Perdida in Wash Park, and Cuba Cuba’s downtown location.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I could thank for guiding me and supporting me to get where I am today. My path to becoming a Registered Dietitian was challenging. My family, my husband, and my friends were a vital part in being able to stay positive, trust my gut, and move forward to finally get here, living in the career of my dreams. One person who has really made an impact in my journey to this point is actually a patient I worked with at my very first nutrition-related job at an assistaed living in college. She was a dietitian, graduated from the same university as me, just 60 years earlier. Her outlook and perspective on the field of nutrition, what it was like to be a woman in a new fieild at the time, and her constant positivity in the future is something I think about frequently as I continue to navigate my own career. I’m so thankful for the time I had with her and the impact she made on my life.
