We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy McGowan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mandy, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I think work-life balance is not realistic, it is more of a teeter-totter I feel. There will always be one area that pulls more heavily on your attention at one time or another. I, unfortunately, used to focus much more on business with the mindset that “if I can just get to a certain point, then it won’t be as time-consuming”. That never worked because there was always another ‘certain point’ to get to with my business. Now I focus more on getting my business time in around life time. When building out my calendar, I put my personal and family stuff on first and then add the business stuff around that. This has created a massive shift in my teeter totter where it is more heavily focused on life at this point, and that feels right to me at this stage of my life. However, I also know, that will shift as life continues and I might find myself at another time in life where business takes more of the focus.
What should our readers know about your business?
As an entrepreneur finance coach, I have a passion for financial mindset and strategy to help driven female entrepreneurs to take charge and direction when it comes to their finances so they can take steps towards a financially free and abundant life. I love helping them map out goals and track data to know how they are going to get where they want to be going with their business. Several years ago, my money mindset was really bad and I found myself in a pretty rough financial situation as a newly single mom. I knew I had to turn my finances around or I was going to lose everything, so I started the work and I turned it all around.
Because of this, I love helping women entrepreneurs realize they have more control over their financial situation then they may think they do, and that it doesn’t have to be as complicated as they may think or as someone may have led them to believe it is. I simplify a complex subject so that any woman can feel empowered around their finances.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an outdoors girl, so we would probably go for drives to the mountains to go on hikes- I have never been to Saint Mary’s Glacier, so that would be fun to explore together. I love baking and cooking, so we would mostly eat at home (plus the budget side of my brain likes that more anyway…) but I would make sure we went to some local places to explore what our lovely town has to offer.
Depending on the time of year, a Rockies or Broncos game is always a great experience as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. My husband and my two sons have been there through every up and down in my business and have supported and believed in me even when I sometimes didn’t believe in myself.
