We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Zeledon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marie, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
After years of a successful career as a fashion designer in New York City, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my passion for mindfulness and transpersonal counseling. Despite the financial security of a six-figure salary, I knew that my true calling lay in helping others and promoting mental wellness. It was a difficult decision to leave behind the stability of my former career, but I was committed to starting anew and establishing myself in a completely different industry. It has been a challenging journey, but the rewards of following my heart and positively impacting people’s lives have been immeasurable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Mindfulness and Transpersonal Psychology at Naropa University. My ultimate aim is to obtain a license and establish a practice where I can assist people in healing and personal growth through various modalities such as sound healing, Reiki, breathwork, and mindfulness. By incorporating these methods with the clinical aspects of transpersonal psychology, I am confident that I can help my clients achieve a higher level of self-awareness and a greater sense of purpose in their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to Fort Collins two years ago from the New York City area. I love Fort Collins! I love to take friends to Ginger and Baker for a fabulous dinner when they are in town. My favorite breakfast place is a little French bistro called La Creperie & French Bakery, which has tasty food, and the bakery is amazing! For a quick snack, I’ll stop by Maggie’s Taco truck parked by REI. Or Blue Agave for more upscale tacos. There’s always a culinary experience waiting for you in Fort Collins.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My aunt Martha is the youngest of four sisters on my mom’s side of the family and has inspired me greatly. She came to the US when she was 17, and regardless of facing numerous challenges, she never gave up on her dreams. She first learned to speak English and continued to learn throughout her life. As she got older, she returned to school to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s in Gerontology.

Despite facing setbacks such as cancer and having to take care of her sick mother during the last stages of her life, she still managed to complete her degree. My aunt taught me that you should never stop learning and that pursuing your goals is never too late.
