We had the good fortune of connecting with Marieta Nicolls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marieta, how do you think about risk?
As a base jumper, most people would call me an “Adrenaline junkie” or “Risk taker”; however, that’s really not the case at all. When I’m on the edge of a cliff, bridge building, antenna or whatever I’m going to jump or fly off of, is the only time i’m actually able to be present and mindful of what i’m doing and able to live 100% in the moment, because it’s your life that’s on the line and when it’s a matter of life or death that notion is what gives me complete clarity. It’s the only time i’m able to actually slow my mind down and allow myself to be completely in the moment. It’s what brings me peace, happiness and a sense of purpose. Of course it’s thrilling and fun and can be very addictive, but it’s the mental clarity I get from the meditative state which is therapeutic and actually grounding for me.

I’m aware i’m still base jumping which is arguably one of the most dangerous/ risky sports on the planet; however, the amount of hard work and time I took training to prepare for this was how I felt comfortable and ready to start a risky sport. Failure for me was not an option. Base jumping was always my goal and when I finally came to a place where I felt the rewards for all my hard work outweighed the risks, was when I knew I was ready to start jumping.

Which is very similar to how I always looked at starting my own business. I am afraid of failure, so it’s been a slow process. I graduated with a Marketing and Management degree and have worked in marketing and events for over a decade now. I have also been an assistant wedding planner in the past and am very detail oriented, so when a friend of mine Tyler asked if I wanted to help him out with his mobile bar, I jumped at the opportunity and quickly realised it’s something I already have the background and knowledge for to be able to run by myself and I also have always had a passion and like running events, so I might as well take it over from him.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think I already touched base on this in a previous question, but what sets me apart from the rest is i’m hear for a good time and hopefully a long time, but who knows. I like to have the most fun possible with the people who have helped me get to where I am today. As cliche as this sounds, life is short. So we like to make the most of every event, occasion or gathering that we are hired for. Bringing people together and seeing their joy and excitement is what we live for.

I have always loved showing people a great time and being their for big moments or life events. The staff and I at MHMB strive to make anyone who hires us experience the best it can possibly be and treat every guest as if they were part of our family. We are here to maximize the fun and excitement at every event we are hired for. That’s why we would love it if you let us bring the party to you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My mates from Australia are actually coming to Colorado for the first time ever in June. I’m going to pick them up from DIA and immediately bring them to a liquor store because alcohol is much more expensive and taxed heavily down there. I would of course buy them a celebratory bottle of champagne and some sort of Colorado made beer of their choosing, which we of course would drink responsibly at my house before taking them to Red Rocks for an epic show at arguably one of the best venues on the planet! After the show, we would make our way downtown to either Lodo’s area or market street for some bar hoping and late night eats before finally letting them sleep off their jet lag and wake up refreshed.

Seeing as how their Aussie and don’t have baseball down unda, we would make our way over to Coors Field to watch the Rockies most likely lose…but hopefully win! We would go check out the new bar at the top of the stadium so they can see the rocky mountain skyline looking out west towards the mountains rather than how they saw it from Red Rocks the night before.

Enough with the city after that, I would whisk them away to mountains for a real Colorado experience. Dirtbikes, Rzr’s, rafting, hiking a 14er and a good old fashioned American BBQ is what they really came to do.

If we had time before they left, I might take them to check out Meow Wolf or take a tour of one of the many micro breweries we have in Colorado or maybe hit up one of the oxygen or IV bars, because they probably would not be feeling all that well after a jam packed agenda at the highest elevation they’ve ever been to.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost like to thank my friend Tyler Wanzeck for the opportunity to run a mobile bar, if it weren’t for him converting our horse-trailer into a mobile bar for his own wedding, I’m not sure I would’ve ever bought and converted one myself.

Secondly, I’d like to thank my Dad who is the smartest person I know and the most successful, self made business owner I’ve ever met. If it wasn’t for all his hard work, dedication, drive and ambition to build his own investment and real estate company from nothing, I would’ve lacked the knowledge, discipline and understanding of what a hard days work looks like and the mindset needed to go after what you want in this life, personally and professionally.

I’d also like to think my friend Jacinda Mahan for employing me as her assistant wedding planner for a couple summers and sharing her knowledge of the industry with me.
