We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Nikole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I knew when I was a toddler that Music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Even as a kid, I felt at peace listening to music on my headphones, it would calm me when I felt upset, and music allowed me to escape into my own little world when life felt hard.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a Musical Artist. I sing, I play guitar and piano, I write my own songs, I play live shows, and I record and create my own songs from start to finish in the recording studio.

My songwriting is what stands out in a crowd of many people pursuing the same passion as I am. I write about my life….. people I know, and circumstances I’ve been through, no matter how dark. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable about my past or the trauma I’ve experienced in my life, when many other artists aren’t capable of doing that.

This industry has taught me that, no matter how big the risk or difficult the path, the risk is always worth taking and the bravest thing you can do is keep pushing forward and doing what you love, despite the many “no’s” along the way. I’ve heard “No” many times, and I’ve come to find that down the road, it was either because I wasn’t ready yet, it wasn’t the right timing, or it was just a “not right now” moment that I had to wait out patiently.

I pursue music not only because it’s my passion, but because I’ve had the opportunity to heal others through my music, which I feel is one of my purposes God has blessed me with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the outdoors, so without a doubt it would be a beautiful drive into the mountains and countryside to experience the great outdoors here in Colorado! I love the diversity of restaurants you can experience here, and downtown Denver is really pretty at night. I would say exploring downtown Denver through 16th Street would be fun, and they also usually have grand pianos set up along the street, which alone is an incentive for me to go.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I grew up exposed to music when I was a baby. My Dad was in a band and my Mom took me to a bunch of his band practices and live shows, so I thank my parents for opening that door for me, to experience music starting at such a young age.

My family and friends have also been the wonderful support that I needed to have the courage to push forward to share my music with the world. And the circumstances I’ve been through have contributed to me creating music at all, which I am so thankful for.
