We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Aguirre Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is something that I really value. When I first started my business, I knew it was risky investing in it. I didn’t know who would support me or who wouldn’t, so it was something that I really had to think through. In the end, I still didn’t know the outcome, but I knew I had to take the risk to see what would happen. It has been the best risk I have ever taken!

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Maritza’s Treats 1.5 years ago! After picking up some baking habits during Covid lockdown, I decided to do the things I love most: business and baking! I started selling chocolate covered strawberries and snickerdoodle cookies over the holidays. This was during my junior year of high school, and I am now a freshmen in college still picking up orders during the weekends! It’s been a challenge balancing my business, work, and school during these last few years. But having support from my amazing friends, family, (and even strangers) always makes it a bit easier. I’ve worked really hard putting my name and my business out there! I’m from a hispanic family, I’m the first in my family to go to a university in the US, I am a girl, and it hasn’t been easy, but it’s all been worth it! And it’s all possible if you believe in yourself, keep working hard, and have a good support system from those who love and support you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My absolute favorite place to go with my friends would be Ridgeview Heights Park in Broomfield CO. It’s an amazing view of the city and it’s perfect for picnics, sunsets, and eating some food with your friends! I love to get boba from Happy Lemon (the best)! Another great place is Nothing Bunt Cakes in Boulder CO. Amy, owner of the business, is an amazing woman entrepreneur who is super sweet and very intelligent. But my FAVORITE place to hangout is at home watching movies with my sisters!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are my biggest inspiration and supporters. Through the ups and downs of starting my business from scratch, they are always there for me. My sisters too for always giving me feedback and being the first ones to try my newest treats! And lastly I want to thank everyone that has supported Maritzas Treats.
