Meet Mark Woolcott | Owner Mark Woolcott Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Woolcott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
This is a solid question. One of the least known things about my industry is how much time images and video take to edit on the back end. Post production for video and stills is at least 1/1….meaning for every hour I am out shooting there will be AT LEAST one hour of post production to get the images ready for the client. This is often overlooked when people see the price of a shoot. They think “wow that is expensive for an hour worth of work”. What they fail to realize is the back end time doubles the total amount of time put into the shoot.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing I am most proud of is being able to say that I have been a self-taught professional photographer for 16 years. Changing careers in your late 30’s is never easy. One point that was and is a non-negotiable for me was customer satisfaction. As I started out, I was determined to make sure clients were happy. To this day I do all I can do to satisfy my clients. My brand identity is based on this one point.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, that is a fun question. Okay this is going to take some pretty specific weather to make it all happen. We are looking at the end of March when it will be warm in town and snowy in the mountains. Lets make it a two a three day trip. Day one, get up early and head to Loveland Ski area for some amazing skiing at Colorado’s most chill resort. With it being only an hour from town we will get back in plenty of time to hit up the Cherry Creek Grill for dinner. Day two will consist of breakfast at Tessa Delicatessen and then head to the Denver Art museum. Around noon lunch will be had at Leven Deli with either the smashed chickpea sandwich or the rueben. Day three is solely focussed on music. We might hit up twist and shout or Wax Trax to look for some vinyl and have a light lunch. The evening will bring us to our first Red Rocks show of the year and if RR doesn’t have what we want…The Mission Ballroom surely will.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who has supported my journey from day one has been my wife Angela. When doubts creep into the equation, she is always the first person to squash them and re-direct my energy into the creative process.
Secondly there is a group of clients/individuals who have allowed me to work for them for may years and have always thrown me work and passed my name around. They know who they are. Thanks.
