We had the good fortune of connecting with Marsha Beyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marsha, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“It’s a rare person who can take care of hearts while also taking care of business.”

I think in the world we live in that is fast paced, instant everything, and extremely competitive , taking a moment to think of the other person or person’s at the end of a decision is hard to do and is missed at many levels in the business world.
The quote reminds me that while business and life moves at a fast pace, people’s hearts and needs can’t keep up.
As a businesswomen it is imperative to think of the decision that is being made as it relates to an individual or a group.
The simple art of slowing down and listening to someone express their opinion or in many cases their objection to your decision makes the other person feel that you care.
The statement “tell me how you feel?’ or “what would you do” are rarely used in the heat of a decision.
I have learned that the two words “Thank You” only take a second to say and can have a lasting impression .
This quote is a great reminder to me to think of the feelings and emotions of the person and is my decision sincere and heartfelt.
I believe it can be both.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My retail career began in a CEP. program in high school. I worked for a dress designer in the town I grew up in. This lead to attending regional markets and learning the “wholesale business”. I studied business in College and landed a job in a large department store in a big city. I had great mentors who encouraged me to do more and to expand my professional platform. I went from a Sportswear Buyer to a Fashion Director and traveled extensively covering different markets. I had an opportunity to go to work for a chain of stores and had the experience of opening new retail stores throughout the country. In those days, travel was still fun and the Ready-to Wear market or the Rag business was an exciting life as a young adult. I met my husband and took a job with a local department store in a different city. I enjoyed being in one place and was quickly promoted to managing the largest store in our Market. The birth of my daughter prompted me to stop working and become a Full-time Mother. This was the most rewarding time of my life. I am grateful and thankful for the time I had with her each day. I went back to work when she was in school and was promoted to Vice President of a large retail store. I managed and opened several locations for the company and when I retired I had completed 33 gratifying years.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Boulder has lots to offer and our first day would be breakfast at Lucky’s Cafe, then a hike on lower Sanitas trail. In the Summer we would dine outside on Pearl Street or Brasserie Ten Ten. The next day would be a Chautauqua hike ending up with coffee at The Goat on Pearl Street and dinner at Mateo. Most likely, we would swing by Sweet Cow before going home and enjoy their Cookies and Creme Ice Cream..
Off to Denver the next day to the Denver Zoo, it is my favorite place in Denver. We could spend most of the day there, then head to Cherry Creek North for dinner.
The next day, back to Denver to the Denver Art Museum, lunch at the Museum and then a shopping spree in Cherry Creek and Cherry Creek North.
We will take the next day to chill in Boulder, a walk on the Pearl Street Mall. Coffee this time at Spruce Confections in the West End. A trip to the Boulder Museum Of Contemporary Art or BMOCO, and have lunch at Dushanbe Tea House. On Saturday a trip to the Farmers Market and that night feast at home on the beautiful fresh vegetables we bought at the market.
The last day would be a hike at Anne White Trail and coffee and treats at Lucky’s Bakehouse.
If my friend could stay another week, I think we would take a night flight to Paris and spend three days there!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I met Paula DuPre Pesmen, founder and CEO of There With Care, I knew that I have found my core purpose. I am able to use my skills to create events to increase the awareness of and bring donations to There With Care who support families with children facing critical illnesses. I have been honored to have put together five unique events and will have one more on February 9, 2023. I call it Art & Love Collide- Series 2. Paula and her team have been so supportive of me and have allowed me to create these events as part of their overall outreach mission. I know that I have the encouragement and support from my daughter and husband.
