We had the good fortune of connecting with Marta Jasinska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m an art therapist. I’m also an immigrant. I’m definitely risk taker when it comes to career and investment.

Taking risk is for me related with excitement and possible growth. As I enjoy rapidness and fast pace in my life risk taking helps me going and actually motivates me. Bring excitement I need. I’m aware of the fact that I’m able to take a risk due to support of family. I be been always encouraged to take a risk in order to invest in myself.

MoodMug is definitely one of the biggest investment risks I’ve taken so far. It come with a big investment: finances as time. This risk is also related to creative process and comes with the need to be vulnerable with others and with the fact that I may take through product not being accepted on the market. It’s going to be launched on Kickstarted on March 8, after two years of work on it.

There are few things which helped me get so far with MoodMug. First of all – my partner. We are doing it together and committed to bringing it to life. We are bouncing off each other’s excitement. When one is doubtful, the other is pulling work forward. Another factor was finances. We had a support of family and we are financially stable enough to make this investment. We are dreamers. Both of us. We like to dream big and creating a new product put us in this dream state we like. We also just believe in this product fully. We want to have it, use it, develop it. We want to give people opportunity to use it and see the change it will bring.

I’m not afraid of failures. I failed few times in my life and got back on track. I just fully believe that failure and risk are part of success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an art therapist. I graduated puppet theater school in Poland and got my master degree in counseling at Naropa University in Boulder. My main medium is theater and used to use it working with people, bringing stories to life. I love working with animating objects in theater and I feel like that partially inspired MoodMug. It’s based on art therapy intervention. I always wanted to connect my passion about art and interest in art process with helping people. Art therapy was the best answer. I came to United States from Poland knowing that art therapy is much stronger discipline here. I experienced some pitfalls as I became single mom, and thought I won’t come back to school. But the decision was growing in me and I told myself that no matter when I’ll graduate, I need to keep going. What I have learned is that it’s helpful to think about one step at a time versus all you need to achieve to reach the goal. The road itself is beautiful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Boulder and would definitely take my friend for some hikes around. I would drive around Colorado to places like Estates Park and the nearest hot springs. I would take her to climbing place and to Pearl street. We would eat in different restaurants. I love the little family owned businesses like the Italian place Il Posto. They make their noodles from scratch. We would gather at my friend’s house and he would cook for us. I would take her to cider place and to wine tasting in Boulder.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I created MoodMug with my partner. I wouldn’t have gone so far if it wasn’t about him and our partnership. We kept each other accountable. Our family was extremely supportive providing extra financial support and encouragement. My mom would tell me: “you need to try”. My mom made few investments in her life and experienced few failures. She lost few times. I think she wants me to succeed as she believes in my potential. I would say that family was our biggest support. They didn’t doubt for a second, didn’t judge our decision.
