We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Before starting Mary Bell Events, I was working a dead end nine to five job and making $13 an hour. Based on the cost of living in this area, I was barely able to make ends meet and I knew something had to give. I was part of a wedding floral design company and had some experience with the wedding industry. It was always easy to tell the weddings that had a quality wedding planner compared those that didn’t. I felt this was an area I could contribute towards and to be of service in making couple’s dreams come true. It was a huge financial risk and leap of faith into the world of wedding planning. My formal education was in Fine Arts! I had no previous knowledge of how to plan or execute an event and I knew I had to master a steep learning curve very quickly! My favorite high professor of all time had a favorite quote which was “people who risk nothing gain nothing”. This has stuck with me through the years and has applied to countless areas and aspects of my life. None more so in the creation of my company, Mary Bell Events. Having the courage to take the first steps always the hardest part. However with faith, determination discipline and perseverance anything is possible!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Their wedding should reflect who they are and what they love. We love working with our couples to create a wedding day that is unique to them! We enjoy weddings of various budget as well , which allow for out of the box thinking and creative solutions to bring specific visions and concepts to life. It is a wonderful opportunity to be of best service to our clients specific needs all while expanding our creative scope. We are a real life team working with real life weddings. We meet our clients where they are and guide them through a wonderful, challenging, emotional and cherished time in their lives, all with lots of love and beauty!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So much to see and so little time! As a nature lover and foodie, my first stops would be… Blue Ridge Parkway
Dupont Forest (land of the waterfalls!)
E’ldr Restaurant (my new fav!)
Historic Omni Grove Park Inn
Biltmore House & Gardens (stunning ANYtime of the year)
Highland Brewery (because, when in Rome! LOL!)
