We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Beth Eversole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary Beth, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I used to work to live. It nearly killed me. I was constantly overscheduling myself, thinking I had to physically work the hours to get the results. This led to my body shutting down, me constantly being ill, and putting us in financial straits because of all of the medical debt- which is counterintuitive to having a successful business. Finally, after years of pain, illness, mental anguish, and eventually realizing I had to slow down or die, I learned to work smarter and not harder. To finally make money work for me and not always have to give up my time to get paid. This allowed me to schedule in rest, play, and free time. Which in turn, made me more work efficient and benefitted myself, my students, my audiences and my business. Now I make heath, self care, time with loved ones, and time off a priority. This makes me a better person, coach, and performer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, the thing I love most is the process of creating, No matter what it is – writing, acting, singing, playing piano, directing, creating a new course, or teaching lessons to others so they can share their own creativity – it’s the process that I love most. The results are always more or different than I expect, in a good way. I always learn something, meet new people, and learn more about myself. In the end I’m left with amazing memories, a feeling of joy and accomplishment, and usually something I can show and share with others, either to inspire them to create on their own, or to just enjoy,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would check out Fort Collins because I love the small town atmosphere! Then a day in the mountains, hiking, visiting Estes Park, and coming down the canyon through Lyons. Day 3 we’d check out all the fantastic museums in Denver. Maybe start at the natural history museum then end at Meow Wolf. Throughout we’d find restaurants that are allergy friendly since I have severe food allergies, and we’d find them because Denver is awesome that way. Maybe on the last day we’d check out and see if Red Rocks had a concert and go to that concert. What better way to end the week than underneath the stars?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My loved ones! My mom, dad, mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband sister, and best friend. I would not be here without their love and unending support.
