We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Beth LaRue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary Beth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was 24 when I started considering leaving my full time job and teaching yoga and writing full time. I had studied journalism in college and went on to work at a magazine in Washington DC. I quickly discovered that spending my days in an office and tethered to a desk wasn’t good for my mental health. I was definitely scared but I also knew that the freedom to spend my days the way I wanted to outweighed the fear. I have now been teaching teaching yoga for 13 years and have created various offerings and businesses to support myself along the way – Rock Your Bliss which was cofounded with my best friend Jacki Carr here in CO and now Embodied which are my own embodiment-based offerings. I still love to write and look forward to pursuing that more in the next couple of years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business was born out of my main value of connection. Connecting with other people in an authentic, genuine way through yoga, meditation or coaching has been such a gift. I believe in showing up wholeheartedly and disregarding the idea of perfection and I’ve been able to create a business and community that reflects that. But this also means knowing your boundaries and knowing what is a “no” for you. I’d rather do a little less and do it in a way that is ultimately soul satisfying and genuine.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m new to Evergreen but I just had two of my best friends visit. Because of the pandemic we kept it close to home but some of my favorites so far – Breakfast at Evergreen Bread Lounge Coffees at Bivouac Mid morning hike at Three Sisters Late lunch and drinks at Lariat Lodge And then home to sit in the hot tub under the Evergreen trees And I can’t wait to explore and embrace Denver once the world opens back up. It’s definitely one of my favorite cities.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is to my community. This year has been challenging and yet you have helped me cultivate and foster a vibrant online class community. I truly can’t wait to see your faces (and your dogs and kiddos) on Zoom everyday.
