We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Delsey Pomperada and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary Delsey, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
We both came from Philippines. Although Bob grew up here in the US but our Filipino roots have strongly inculcated the value of hard work and persistence. We are both passionate about growing our individual careers but at the same time we make sure that we find time for each other and our families even if it’s just through phone/video calls.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a nurse by profession. I’ve worked in the Philippines, Middle East and currently here in the US. At the same time I’ve ventured into online selling, podcasting for a short time, and now YouTube travel blogging. In 2014, I was only 27 that time when I thought my world ended when I had a massive stroke. I was paralyzed on my left side for a while. As active as I am, I couldn’t believe that everything that was happening to me. I had to stop working for a while to recover, I’ve wallowed in self-pity, and tried to push people away due to depression especially Bob.

Looking back, if it wasn’t for my family, Bob, and the people who continually prayed and believed in me, I wouldn’t be here reaching for my dreams.

I’m currently living with Essential Thromobocytosis (ET), a blood disorder where my bone marrow is overproducing platelets that can cause blood clots. At te same time I’m a full time nurse and a wife/travel partner to Bob.

We both learned that if you really want something in life, nothing is impossible if you’re persistent, work hard for it, and believe that God will make it possible for you. Everything takes time, but never give up on something that you are passionate about. We both love traveling, and we’ve been in a 7 years long distance relationship before we united so we’re making the most out of it. Work life balance is another must in order to maintain a healthy mental state.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend cam to visit us here in Missouri we would take them to the country club plaza in downtown Kansas City. It’s an out door shopping district full of restaurants and stores. For food we are quite partial to eating Korean bbq. Our fav spot to eat at is called Chosun. It’s always fun to introduce people to new cuisines. A fav spot we like to go for short hikes is at the ha ha tonka state park. The main attraction is a really cool castle ruins. Other than those things we would probably go on a road trip. Our fav states we visited are Colorado and Minnesota.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s just a lot of people who I would want to dedicate my shoutout. To my husband Bob/Robert who never gave up on me in my downest and supported me through my health recovery and career journey. At the same time my family and friends who were my prayer warriors and cheering squad in my every endeavor. Lastly, God who watches over me and guides me all the time.
