We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Walsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In January 2018 I published a book entitled Weed! What? This was a guide for the novice investor and how to invest publicly traded stocks within the fledgling Marijuana Industry. The more I researched the more I became intrigued with CBD derived from the hemp plant. Having spent almost 20 years in the spa industry I began to find synergies between the benefits of CBD and the opportunities to share CBD within the spa industry. I formed my CBD company in September 2018 and began to develop products that were suitable, safe and effective for spas, their guests, athletics and any consumer interested in an all natural approach towards wellness, after-all, everyone deserves wellness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I began a career on “Wall Street” and had a good grasp on the financial inner workings of this industry. When my wife and I opened our first spa in 2004 we treated the spa as a business, understanding all the financial metrics that separate a successful business from many of the others that are doomed to fail from the beginning. Transitioning from a fast paced Wall Street job was quite a change from the calming environment of spa and it looks some time to adapt and slow down. patiences is key; listening and learning are critical and having the ability to adapt is tantamount to success. After selling our spa and having the opportunity to work as spa director for brands such as Vail Resorts and the Ritz-Carlton I took all these incredible experiences and folded the best of all I learned into our new business, Splish Naturals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in the mountains of Colorado, our back yard is the ultimate play ground. I would pick up my buddy from Denver International and come straight back up to the mountains. We’d have a healthy lunch at Pure Kitchen in Frisco and then take an easy walk to the Frisco Marina. During his visit we’d take many hikes, including Rainbow Lake and Eagles Nest Wilderness. We’d visit some of our local breweries and other restaurants; we’d cook meals at home and enjoy the Colorado sunset from our deck. We’d spend a Sunday in Vail at the Farmers Market and rent kayaks on Lake Dillon. Time would pass quickly and suddenly we’d realize it was time for my buddy to head back home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have many colleagues and friends who have been willing test subjects as we began to share and test our products. also, as a member of the International Spa Association, we’ve had an opportunity to share our business with many leaders within the spa industry. Further, we’ve had the opportunity to work with talented individuals who support athletes within the NFL. Thanks to folks such as Mike Long, Lindsay Miller, Raquel Williamson, Steve Greve, Meghan Walsh, Diana Morro, Jen Barry and many others who have supported our venture from the beginning. And thanks to my biggest supporter, my wife Andrea.
