Meet Meagan Michael-Ryan | Fractional Accounting CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meagan Michael-Ryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meagan, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
This is one of my favorite questions, because I have started to host an annual “Fill Your Jar” event for the ladies that live in my community. I print over a thousand affirmations and the ladies take their time to fill their jars and select ones they place in others. My favorite that I have on my refrigerator is: May I always lead with love, and echo passion that ignites purpose.
Every time I read this affirmation, I reset the focus on my energy and how I transfer that energy into my environment. Through family, relationships, my work, how I respond to situations and also guide others. It is through this foundation that keeps me grounded at my core the woman I am.
What should our readers know about your business?
I launched Modern Maven, Inc earlier this year as I have always had a heart for helping small businesses with their financial record keeping needs as well as mentor and coach. It’s become a passion of mine as throughout the years of meeting and connecting with small business owners in my community there seems to be this egoistic mindset of “I can do it all” and often it leads to more difficult situations owners face.
I have dabbled in helping small businesses for almost 10 years and I took a leap of faith this year to leave the 4 walls of a cushy office to venture and invest in myself. A trust and intuition of feeling I can do more and impact more than just working the old style force of 60 hour work weeks as a minimum expectation. I have gone through a lot of change this year finding what creates happiness in my space, officially divorced after almost 3 years of what could be soul crushing to some building layer upon layer of resiliency to overcoming challenges to grow and build something beautiful from within. When Modern Maven, Inc was created, I believed in the hustle and grit that would set me apart from others.
Modern Maven, Inc tailors uniquely to small business. As a fractional accounting service there are ways to help small business owners with their financial needs as well as cater to project based services to ensure they are getting the best results. I help owners truly understand what is behind the numbers, so that they can effectively strategize and make key business decisions with accurate information. I’m most proud of Modern Maven, Inc because it was born from a few different entities I had created along the way in the past 10 years and morphed it into something I could truly be passionate in. Those small entities and ideas at the time were the seeds I needed, and taking the chance to leap in opportunity over fear was the water to grow.
Growing and creating your own business faces its challenges. Finding clients, people to trust you with their sensitive data, small business owners who also feel fear of probably just barely holding on and you seeing the truth, and owners who fear judgment, I have reached out to hundreds of companies, not giving up on potential opportunities. Alot of no’s, or non-responses to continually drive to try again. As I’m doing that, I continue to learn and strategize how to make my company better. Overcoming challenges by not giving up, because I made a promise to myself to never settle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Castle Rock it gives you the small town feels with beautiful landscapes. I would most definitely have a couple days lined up to hike the rock, go on the ziplines, and if the timing was right not to miss the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo. I would take my best friend on a walk through downtown to visit our iconic stores such as The Barn, and Emporium, as well as have some of the best fried chicken at Castle Cafe and breakfast at B&B Cafe. We’d pop in some stores such as Nixon & Co, Mod Mountain Boutique and Amazing Lemons and have some delicious drinks at Crush Wine Bar, Union Bistro, Ecclesia, Provisions, and Dos Santos. If I was grilling up some steaks, definitely pick up some meat at Salt Market.
Outside of Castle Rock, we’d tour through downtown Denver and walk through the West Highlands area. Visit RiNo and check out some of the fabulous food and fun events.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been gifted with some really amazing individuals in my life. Some for years and some for seasons, and where I am in life today is where I’m ever grateful for Sarah Futa. This amazing woman and I connected almost 10 years ago to help rebuild our community youth sports organization to the successful program that it is today. As we partnered together in a very delicate and difficult situation, our friendship turned to trust. Not only is Sarah and amazing community contributor, but she is also a very successful and respected real estate agent with accolades that extend to her rising leadership in the Denver Metro Area for Realtors. She gifted me patience and grace in helping me get into my now home when I left my ex-husband of almost 20 years. During what was probably one of the most difficult times in my life making this leap of faith and change for myself, I had seen the most professional side of her in care and diligence to which in highest regard I respect her more. It was through this process that I am where I’m at now and sit here writing this in peace and abundance.
