We had the good fortune of connecting with Meesha Sharma and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meesha, what do you attribute your success to?
Being deep in my own yoga practice so I am able to listen to what my intuition is sparking within me, staying true to the values that I built the business on, and creating real meaningful connections with the folks who engage with my work. Community building and organizing is one of the beautiful things that can come of small business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sure thing, thanks for asking. One may not see a wellness collective and immediately think the person behind it considers themselves an artist. However, the heart of my business is an artistic expression. I am a writer, and one of the ways I get my message out to the world is through long form captions on social media, blog posts, and articles. Writing is an art form that has been so important for me to explore my internal world, and reading other folks’ writing is what feeds my soul and passion. Everything I offer in my business, whether it is free educational content on social media, or a long course of continuing education around yoga and social justice issues, are ultimately creative expressions. I have like 2,000 notes on my iPhone that contain my thoughts and writing when I feel inspired. In the first year of my business especially, I would find myself waking up in the morning filled with ideas and inspiration. My business is a very personal offering. Art and activism and healing are all intertwined.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My cousin is visiting me next week so this is relevant to what I’ve already been planning! I want to take her to a queer space first and foremost; either a Brooklyn drag show or a queer club. I find queer spaces to be so safe and free, and I want everyone to experience that kind of inclusivity and joy in their life. Next I would take her up to the Catskills, because those mountains are magic. I also want to make sure she gets a proper BK slice of pizza, and to be honest, I think the one on my block is the best in all of BK, but that’s controversial to say. I want her to experience Coney Island and take her on all the rides and to the freak show. Honestly, I’m a traveler by nature, and although I’ve lived in New York over a year now, I still feel brand new. I’ll probably feel like a tourist alongside her, this city feel infinite.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my partner Maria Serrano. When I met Maria through our shared passion for a more green and peaceful future, they immediately began to encourage me to see the strengths within me. When we started dating, they found out that I have a deep love and passion for yoga, and felt disheartened by how white washed it was around me. They started planting seeds that I could build a community that reflected the values and demographic that would make me feel safe to share my gifts. Every step of the way they have been my biggest support system. It is true that creating a business requires many things, but one of the most important are folks that encourage you to keep going when it gets tough. Maria has seen all the highs and lows of this journey and continues to remind me of the strength within to keep persevering and growing. I love you Maria.
