We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Stritch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Winston- Salem, North Carolina. Growing up my Mom was the Executive Director of a homeless shelter, soup kitchen and treatment facility. My Father owned his own moving company and was an entrepreneur. Between the both of them they taught me a strong work ethic and to truly find a passion for the career path you take. My Mother is an angel walking this earth and has helped hundreds of people go from experiencing homelessness and substance use disorder to being in recovery with a home of their own. My Moms dedication to her work and helping others was the leading example for why I do the work I do today. My father showed me the grit it takes to own your own business. He worked hard and provided work for others. He started with nothing and made his business everything. I’ll never forget driving around with him as a kid putting door handle flyers on homes with for sale signs. He wasn’t afraid to ask for business. He also taught me that not all business is good business. Between the both of them, I couldn’t have asked for better role models.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My personal story of recovery kick started my passion for helping those experiencing substance use disorder. MSC was started years ago as I did part time intervention work. About a year ago, I had a choice to take another job marketing for a treatment center or completely lean into my business. I chose to take the risk and have faith in myself and grow my business. January will mark one year of working for myself full time. I would say my biggest concern stepping into this would be the financial fear. Fear of not knowing when the next job would be and how you would pay your bills. As a person with treated anxiety disorder, I was worried that I would spend a year in complete anxiety. I overcame this by completely leaning into my spiritual practice and trusting that if I worked hard to network and market myself, the business would come and it has! I want people to know that those who suffer from substance use disorder don’t have to hit a rock bottom to get help. I am here to help raise the bottom and help before people get too deep.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big fan of Denver and love showing it off. I would take a friend and have taken friends to luciles for brunch followed by a walk at cheesman park. Stubens is always a great spot for lunch and I love a good trip to the RINO district for shopping and art.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my Mother. She showed me that service above self is a genuine way to live and be present. I love you, Mom!
