We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Towey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
There are two books that have profoundly changed the course of my personal and professional journey. Both books have a lot to do with the entrepreneurial path I am on today and offer a framework I use in both my business as well as my personal life.
“Traction” by Gino Wickman and “I Am Enough” by Marisa Peer boldly highlighted the importance of fixing the root cause at the deepest level – not treating the symptoms.
Reading Traction made so much sense to me as a business leader – almost too much sense. The framework was simple and effective. It was mental health – for your business. Traction walks you through the journey of EOS®. It doesn’t treat symptoms – it helps you cure the “whole body” by strengthening the Six Key Components™ of your business – Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. EOS® takes you below the surface to produce real, permanent change. Reading Traction is what ultimately led to my decision to become a Professional EOS Implementer® so I could help business leaders put focus on what matters; getting more of what they want from their business and in turn getting more of what they want from there life.
I Am Enough: Mark Your Mirror and Change Your Life is all about the power of the mind, the words we say to ourselves, and why the beliefs we hold often are what hold us back in the things we set out to do. Marisa Peer has been a leading therapist for over 30 years and developed her own method of therapy called Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) that has won numerous awards because of its effectiveness. Many of her most effective techniques and methods are contained within this book. After reading “I am Enough”, I believed so much in the cutting-edge techniques she writes about, that I went on to study under Maris Peer and became a Licensed Practitioner in RTT. It is the fundamental tool I use with my mindset coaching clients because it’s rapid and lasting!
What should our readers know about your business?
I began my career in Minneapolis holding several diverse leadership roles within the construction and luxury building materials industry. After many years focusing on marketing and brand development, I relocated to San Francisco, where I led the construction management of showroom and gallery spaces nationwide for a leading producer of quartz surfaces. In 2017, I accepted a national sales leadership role and was relocated to Los Angeles with America’s largest privately-held marketer of tile and stone. It was in these years that I developed a burning passion for helping businesses and teams create their path forward.
In my own pursuit to help others understand the psychology of business and people, I became a Certified Coach (ICF) as well as a Practitioner in Rapid Transformational Therapy. Whether it be in business or in life, I believe in fixing the root cause at the deepest level – not treating the symptoms.
In 2019, I made the move to Denver, CO where I founded my business. Today, I help businesses masterfully build to their greatest potential, eliminating blocks, and strategically facilitating new dimensions of success – finding joy, freedom, & fulfillment along the way.
As a Professional EOS Implementer and Business & Mindset Coach, I focus on helping my clients in two areas:
EOS Implementation:
I help entrepreneurs and business leaders get what they want from their business. I do that by helping to implement a complete, proven system with simple, practical tools to help business leaders do three things we call vision, traction, healthy.
1. Vision, from the standpoint of first getting leadership teams 100% on the same page with where their organization is going and how it is going to get there.
2. Traction, from the standpoint of helping leaders to become more disciplined and accountable, executing really well to achieve every part of their vision.
3. Healthy, meaning helping leaders to become a healthy, functional, cohesive leadership team because unfortunately, leaders often don’t function well as a team.
The business leaders I work with get to the point where their entire organization is crystal clear on their vision, all much more disciplined and accountable, executing well, gaining consistent traction, and advancing as a healthy, functional, cohesive team!
Mindset Coaching:
Most of the time, the problem that we think is creating the issue is not really the problem at the core. Our beliefs are often what limit our abilities and keep us trapped from the goals we set out to achieve.
Most coaching concentrates on working with the conscious mind – thoughts and feelings you’re already aware of. The problem with this approach is that the conscious mind only accounts for 5% of your mind. The real potential lies in the 95% – the subconscious mind where clarity begins and many personal and professional goals are accomplished.
Using a uniquely tailored and hybrid form of coaching, I combine traditional coaching tools and techniques in combination with Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT). This method of coaching was created on the basis that past experiences, habits and beliefs create patterns in the subconscious mind, and that these patterns dictate our attitudes, actions and reactions. Breakthroughs are achieved by understanding and fixing the root cause, rather than just addressing the symptoms of the presenting issue.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nurture: A Place Where Food, Beauty + Wellness Meet. Nurture provides a community-based well care marketplace focused on self-care for everyone. Their message is simple: We are home for the whole human. The energy, people and atmosphere make you want to grab a cup of coffee or glass a wine and sit down at Nest Cafe all day just to meet so many inspiring people. I recently just joined their Provider team so now get to enjoy officing and meeting with clients out of the space once a week. It’s heaven!
Wash Park: I am a Minnesota girl so when I find water in Denver, it goes to the top of my list. I love walking around the lake, taking a stroll through the neighborhood and scoping out all the new custom homes going up and heading to S Gaylord Street to enjoy so many great places to eat.
Carboy Winery & Logan Street Restaurant on 7th in Cap Hill: I am a wino at heart and I have yet to find a better happy hour in the city. Their wine crafts are amazing, and they have the best gluten free small plates I have had!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Success can be defined in a lot of ways. Over the years, the definition of success for me has rapidly evolved and I now look at it as a term I use to describe a way of life, not a goal or destination I have to hit. That refinement took a lot of time and a lot of influence from others that I respect and learned from. Throughout my career, I have been blessed to be surrounded by incredibly talented people and teams; people who constantly challenged me to be a better leader, manager, partner, and person overall. I have had inspiring mentors and coaches at every milestone in life who have taught me that when life knocks you down, you keep going and that resilience is a gift, not a curse. At every successful milestone reached, there has been at least one other brilliant influence behind it. Most importantly, I have parents and a huge, loud, and supportive family who never let me lose sight of what is important. In the midst of it all, I credit God and my faith as the glue that holds it all together and keeps paving the way for what comes next.
