Meet Melody Szlufman | International Singer & Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Szlufman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melody, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
It makes me happy to share beautiful moments with the people I love and to see them happy and healthy. It also makes me happy to be able to do what I enjoy doing most – being a singer, actress, and dancer. I’m grateful to be able to enjoy the work that I get to do and see my dreams come true. I love to feel at peace with myself, trust my instincts, and be confident in my choices. Lastly, it makes me happy when I get to celebrate all of life’s different moments.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that I think is really important in my profession is perseverance and having good energy and patience. Additionally, it is imperative to believe in yourself and to work and practice constantly to continue growing and evolving as a person and as an artist.
Since I was little, I’ve always loved to sing, dance, and act – especially in English. I studied and enrolled in a school that specializes in musical comedy. I loved learning and practicing with other students and independently as well. It also gave me the opportunity to explore different styles and learn from the various professors.
As time went on, I realized that this is what I wanted to do with my life.
I also had the opportunity to participate in a program called “Go Broadway.” I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the program and learn from people in the industry and be able to work with them on all 3 areas that I am passionate about – singing, dancing, and acting. I really enjoyed this experience and it made me happy to see my progress as the program and classes went on.
From there, I decided to start teaching voice lessons with recommendations for students via word of mouth. I also started sending in submissions for various casting calls of theatre shows, where in some cases you get a call back and in others you don’t. I’ve learned the importance of understanding that sometimes when you don’t get a call back it has nothing to do with you or your skill and ability. Many times, it can be a factor out of your control where another person who auditions might have just fit the role more closely. Having perseverance has allowed me to continue moving forward and always guide myself with the reassurance that this is what I’m meant to be doing.
Currently, I can say that I am truly doing what I love: I’ve participated as a bilingual actress in several programs at an international level that were broadcast in places like the US. Additionally, I sing at events in both Spanish and English, I’ve created jingles, and also had roles in both children and adult musicals. In the children’s musicals I portrayed various Disney princesses and in the adult shows I was able to perform in well-known theatres and work with well known show producers such as Pepe Cibrian, the creator of “Dracula.”
I think my attitude towards various events and life itself helps differentiate myself from other people and is fundamental to success. It’s beautiful to be able to do something that connects me to myself and my essense and is truly representative of who I am. There is a phrase from John Ruskin that I think truly encompasses this feeling, ” When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me in Buenos Aires, I would take them to see the “Teatro Colon” and see a show there. I’d also make sure to show them “Teatro Maipo” and “Teatro San Martín” and walk along Corrientes, which is a street that is filled with different theatres. I’d also take them to an area called Puerto Madero, where it’s beautiful to walk around and has various restaurants to eat at. We’d also go to an area called “Caminito” in a part of Buenos Aires called La Boca. There are also beautiful forests in Palermo where we could go on a hike. Another area that is great for eating outdoors and has great bars and nightlife is “Los Arcos” del Rosedal, which would be fun for a chill night out. If my friend wanted to visit a museum, we could go to MALBA. There are also Japanese gardens that are nice to visit and a few other areas that are great to stop by for an afternoon coffee. If there are other cities my friend is interested in visiting in Argentina, they could head to Bariloche, Mendoza, or Ushuaia.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am always grateful for the people who have supported and motivated me since I was young to pursue my dreams such as family, friends, and teachers. They showed confidence in me before I was able to see my full potential and have been there for me every step of the way. I’m especially grateful for my family for always standing behind me and encouraging all of my pursuits.
