We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Rosenzweig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There is a huge gap between companies that can afford expensive marketing agencies and those trying to figure things out themselves. Some small business owners simply need to refresh their digital presence, some updates to their website, or some advice and a push in the right direction.

I try to fill the space between a full-service agency and a marketing coach.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own and run The Marketing Handyman, a cross between a full-service marketing agency, a small business consultant, and a marketing coach. I started this just over a year ago, right before the pandemic hit, and have seen incredible success as more people are looking to craft their own lives and their own business journeys. I don’t think that EVERY business needs to have EVERY aspect of marketing working for them. Some don’t have the budget. Some don’t want all of the attention – and that is OK.

One of the biggest challenges with marketing agencies I find is telling clients how they are going to get them, new customers, without actually listening to what they need. I always start with questions, listening, and helping small businesses to clarify what they want, and how to get there!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Old Town Lafayette and believe you can find everything you need right here. We’d start at East Simpson Coffee Company – in their soon-to-open new location in the historic City Hall building. From there we’d grab breakfast at Tangerine, stroll the streets of Old Town checking out sculptures, alley art, and some parks. After a quick lunch and beer at William Oliver’s, we’d hit the trails (on foot or bike) and do the 2 Lafayette lakes (Waneka and Hecla) for some scenic views. We’d end the day at The Post for some amazing fried chicken and drinks!

If we had a week, we’d do a road trip, heading west to Glenwood Springs and Hanging Lake, then going South to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, then we’d spend a few days in Telluride and Ouray. I don’t remember the name, but the best green chili I’ve ever had was in Telluride. Then we’d stop by Manitou Springs on the way home to do the stairs and drink some naturally bubbly water!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am inspired by the people who took a chance in starting their own businesses and not only have seen success, but have crafted lives for themselves that fulfill them completely, from growing their influence in their industry to creating the perfect work-life balance. Two people come to mind, who not only have helped me to see tremendous success my first year, but consistently push themselves to be the best version of themself that they can be.

Specifically, they are two women: Eileen Kantor of Kantor & Company salon in Boulder, CO and Mitten Lowe of Journey to Wellness.
