We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first sought therapy a decade ago, I remember being met with so much red tape to just speak to any therapist. Sometimes it was dozens of pages of paperwork, requesting a diagnosis before being seen or hearing back a week after reaching out. It overwhelmed me at a time when I needed support and relief not increasing stress. The thought process really started with wanting clients to not have the same experience I did. I want clients to have good accessibility and high-quality services and the best way to provide that is by creating it. Having a small practice allows every interaction to be personable and direct; there’s no chasing around a bunch of different information while still not being sure of what to expect from who you’re seeing and what the process will look like. Every client receives a free phone consultation to ensure we both feel it is a good fit for their needs. I strive to bring that personal, genuine nature into every session. I show up as the messily authentic and non-judgemental me and honor and encourage clients to do the same and meet themselves from a curious, open place. Whether someone is looking for help with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or similar struggles, utilizing a holistic approach that takes into account the whole person and all their parts aims to create a safe place for the clients.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that the healing journey can unlock a new era for yourself. The foundation of my business is to help others through their mental health struggles, but therapy can be so much more than finding some relief. I grew up in an abusive household and also experienced personal trauma senior year in college; while working through this was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, I am a completely new person because of it, one with more resilience, care, and love for the world around me. As a true product of mental health therapy and holistic healing; I aim to hold that space for others. The therapy space and healing journey can be a catalyst for creating a new era for yourself. Using a holistic healing model addressing the mind, body, and soul, you can connect with all these aspects of yourself while nurturing and unburdening your wounds. Doing new things is not always comfortable and overcoming challenges involves taking a moment and then figuring out how to grow through the discomforts of mistakes and imperfections. A new golden era for yourself is out there; it’s just waiting to be written.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There really are so many activities around this beautiful state. Without taking seasons into account, we would find a venture for a hike or two in Rocky Mountain NP (I’m a sucker for a good lake hike), have to stop at a brewery (or two) with Left Hand Brewery a staple of where we take our visitors, attending a Rockies or Nuggets game, and finding some dinner at Osteria Marco in Larimer Square. There are endless things to do in this state, any adventure to the mountains is a must and foodies always leave a Colorado visit satisfied.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize all my professors, my therapist, my business coach, clinical supervisor, and my husband for always encouraging and supporting me. I think books I owe my motivation to are “The Dark Nights of the Soul”, “On Being a Therapist” and “A Man’s Search for Meaning” to orient my purpose above other superficial values. I also want to shoutout myself, this isn’t mean to be pompous in nature but to set an example for all those who struggle to celebrate the wins they’ve worked so hard to accomplish.
