We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Beeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Working everyday…road to success is paved with failures!!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I took an interest in art at an early age while living in Banbury, England.  My neighbor, a portrait painter, sparked a fascination that has stayed with me to this day. I enjoy painting in both pastels, oils, and gouache working with portraiture, landscapes, wildlife, and still lifes.

Painting, regardless of the media, provides one with an opportunity to be intuitive and spontaneous in developing expressive content. Unique challenges always exist in chasing the light and expressing a particular mood. You can overcome some of these challenges by painting daily and enjoying and learning from your accomplishments.

I was an art educator and an elementary principal in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I’ve worked as a full time artist since 2002. My work has been selected five times in the Pastel Journal’s 100 competitions (2013 Silver Award for still life), the Richeson 75, and International Association of Pastel Societies’ exhibits.

I am a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and the International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Terry Ludwig Pastels….littleton, Colorado. Best pastels ever!!!!
