We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Lamitola and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what inspires you?

I’m inspired by the creative process and people that create things. While most of my own creativity is focused on music, songwriting and as of late, creative parenting, I find any type of creativity inspiring. Seeing people follow their own dreams, no matter what they are is also very inspiring. That dream may be something that I have absolutely no desire to fulfill myself but I love seeing what people do!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Making and playing music is what feeds my soul. I think what I’m most excited about is the ongoing journey of continually writing new songs, finding inspiration and then getting to play them in different places. I have no idea what songs will be coming or where I’ll be out playing them and it’s been a really fun part of the process to just see what happens. There are definitely festivals and venues that I have my sights on to play at in the future and I also love to see what comes out of the unknown as I work on getting into some of those places. Creatively, I keep getting surprised by new inspirations whether it’s a great book, someone’s story, something that happens to me unexpectedly or a number of other ways. Inspiration seems to come from all things at different times and I’ve enjoyed that part of life more and more in recent years. My songs are mostly a reflection of any of these stories that either happen to me or others and the emotions connected to them. It’s my hope to convey that in the song and the most satisfying part of the journey so far has been connecting with different people in audiences. It’s very motivating and keeps the fire going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’m grateful to be doing all of this in Colorado.  Anyone coming from out of state has to go to a concert at Red Rocks! That’s always a good starting place. Denver has a lot of great music venues outside of that too. I’ve also got a list of great places to camp and that list keeps growing. Red Feather lakes is one of them! I always try to support the local eateries in Erie and Lafayette. Those are two towns that I spend a lot of time in and both are growing fast and adding some great spots. East Simpson Coffee Co, and Teocalli in Lafayette are at the top and the Birdhouse and the Old Mine in Erie. Odd 13 and Liquid Mechanics are also two of my favorite breweries in Lafayette.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My two children.  I’m learning everyday from them.  I’m also learning about the balance of allowing them to explore and find what feeds their soul while continuing to do that for myself.  I want to be a good example for them.   There is a lot of love and support I have had over the years from friends, family and mentors and I’m always grateful for them too.
