We had the good fortune of connecting with mike maddden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi mike, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Customers are attracted to the uniqueness of the jewelry and the quality of craftsmanship that goes into each one of a kind piece. Because the jewelry is made from repurposed guitar strings, it tends to attract musically inclined, environmentally conscious buyers, who appreciate the importance of recycling and repurposing materials for the wellbeing of our Planet.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the aspects of this business that I love the most is all of the exciting places that it takes me to. Because the jewelry is made of guitar strings, my main Nich, of place of business, is at music festivals and art shows around the country. I have had the privilege to vend at some of the most amazing festivals in the country. I have had opportunities to listen to and even meet some of my favorite musicians. On occasion, I will get strings from these musicians and have made special items from their strings.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Bayfield, CO., which is 15 miles east of Durango, CO. There are many amazing activities, to recomend to someone visiting my town. Their are many great restaurants, from Sushi at East by Southwest to Local Food Trucks at 11th street. I would also recommend a daily raft trip down the Animas River.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As this business has grown over the years, I have needed more and more help in terms of making the jewelry, but also in filing out applications and managing the other responsibilities involved in running a small business. My wife Colleen Madden, has been an incredible support in helping to do much of the prep work involved, making sure applications get filled out, among tending to many other responsibilities necessary in running a small business.
