We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike & Sandi Penfound and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike & Sandi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
With both of us being artists, we wanted to start a business that was fulfilling for us and at the same time bring joy and happiness to others

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We started out making small stained glass gift items and consistently added new techniques such as, glass blowing, bead making, sand blasting and painting on glass. With all the different techniques we were able to do we wanted to share our knowledge with others so we started Rock Mountain Creative Arts Center. We love teaching new students and watching them get so excited about their new projects. We have combined the different glass techniques with woodworking, creating pieces ranging from panels, boxes, clocks etc to custom furniture pieces. Over the years we have developed a full line of celtic art glass including anything from bowls, vases and panels to a custom entry way

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Showing our area to a friend would defiantly include Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Art Museum, one of the productions at Lakewood Culture Center (in season) and the Galleries at 40 West. Eating out might include a trip to Clancy’s Irish Pub and enjoying a Tuesday night music session, or breakfast at the Blue Sky Cafe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We started as a stained glass business, taking classes at Barb Sauls Creative Stained Glass Studio. She is also the one responsible for bringing glass blowing classes to the Denver area, which we heartily embraced. Over the years we have added several different glass techniques and taught classes ourselves as well as hosting several nationally renowned instructors including Peter McGrain, Dan Fenton, Ed Schmid, Patty Walton and many others.
We have been members of the Glass Artists of Colorado for many years and have supported and been supported by its many fun and talented members
