Meet Mike Weakley | Songwriter-Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Weakley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I’ve found more recently that the music industry is about consistency. Not everything you put your energy into will be successful but it’s the loses that teach you how to make the next move win.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started singing in church at a young age. It was a weekly thing. I never thought anything about it. It was in middle school when I recognized I had something different than others. Skateboarding and punk music was the trend. I played in a few bands, gathered some fans through MySpace and got on stage through out my teenage years. I had friends who eventually gained international success but I chose to go to college. Sparingly playing guitar in college, it wasn’t until I put together a backyard show that made me realize I needed to redirect my focus on music. I had a childhood dream, set it aside and that rowdy backyard crowd brought it back to light. I think that was the start to my biggest challenge. I was always trying to catch up to my peers by myself. I’ve learned a decade later that not everyone’s journey is the same. We need to embrace who we are because that’s where the true art lies.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have lived in Venice Beach California since the end of 2020. I am all about the beach vibes. One of my favorite activities is walking, running, skateboarding or biking the boardwalk. I love making beach camps on the weekends. I put together an ice chest, my propane grill, prep some skewers, pack drinks & snacks, chairs, umbrella and of course, a music speaker. If it’s not watching the sunset on the beach, I like to eat fish tacos & a beer at the Venice Whaler rooftop bar next to the fishing peer when the sun goes down. Firestone brewery down the street is a great hang for dinner. Jamesons on Main Street in Santa Monica is fun to watch sports. They play alternative rock (emo, pop punk, radio rock) in between commercials and I love the buffalo wings. It’s also fun to find a live show around town to check out because there’s always a show in LA!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would thank my family for always believing in me on my journey as a musician. They are my biggest cheerleaders. Second, Matt Good and Hiram Hernandez, producers who sit in the chair in front of me. They’ve helped motivate, create, and start the body of work that has grown into my career.
