We had the good fortune of connecting with Miqo Six and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miqo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY as an artist and a creative, it was extremely hard to get my foot in the door especially since I didn’t have access to many resources to expand my creativity. Now that I have a huge lead way, I wanted to be a valuable resource in my community for many others like me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It all started with a strong passion for music, since the age of 9 maybe. At first I used to write an endless amount of poems. And then I learned that if you put instruments behind your words, it becomes a song. I’ve dedicated my life to music, but it’s a love hate relationship. Expression isn’t the problem, it’s not getting the recognition for it. But I’ve had major success as opposed to my failures. I’m proud of my development as a performing artist. Performing is my strength. I’ve sold out shows all across NYC. I’ve performed at festivals with artists such as SZA, Willow Smith, Kaytranda, Thundercat, etc. I’ve gotten to these places without releasing a single song. Even signed to a record label. But I can only imagine how much bigger I would be if I put my music out. I think the biggest lesson is to never hold back. Holding on to your work does nothing for you or the world. Put it all out. Someone somewhere needs it. I want the world to know that even though they missed my come up, the journey never ends. There is no destination. I’m just enjoying the ride and I’m welcoming the world to tag along.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Me personally, I enjoy sports. New York City sport teams are a must see. So if I had a friend visiting town, we’re definitely going to see a Brooklyn Nets game. Maybe even the Knicks. If we’re drinking, there’s this spot called Barcade which have a ton of throw back arcade machines. Now when it comes to food in NY, there are things that you MUST try. Bacon egg and cheese is a must. 2 Bro’s pizza is a must. Stay away from the glizzy’s at the street carts. Chopped cheese is a must. I’m a concert person, I enjoy live music so we’d definitely go experience that. If they genuinely want to be a tourist, I guess the Brooklyn bridge, Statue of Liberty, and the top of the Empire State Building are cool but, to us New Yorkers, we don’t do any of those.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To be completely honest, shout out to my support system, because I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for them. Close friends, family, even random followers who genuinely appreciate my art and my work. You never know who’s watching and listening. I’ve learned that my words, my music, my art, my ability to push through problems and come out on top has impacted someone’s life in this world for the better. And in return they give me their full support. And definitely a huge shout out to Amyr. One of the realest people I have in my life.
