We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriah Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Building relationships with other small business owners has been huge for me. Very early on, I reached out to a small business that curates vintage goods and offered her a dried arrangement for her to use in her photos and just asked that she tagged me. A few other businesses saw that and purchased arrangements with the same purpose in mind. Then, their clients wanted arrangements to go with the vintage vases they had purchased and it really just snow balled from there! My advice would be to look for unconventional partnerships and build genuine connections.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was never a great student and I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up…I still don’t. Find something that makes you happy and as soon as it no longer serves you, do something else. Priorities change, the world changes, life happens. I think the best thing I’ve done for myself and my career is release myself from the pressure to find my “passion” or my one true career path.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is busting at the seams with amazing artists and entrepreneurs! I love Boulder and walking Pearl street. One of my favorite cocktail bars, The Bitter Bar, is there. Reroot is an amazing little plant shop in RiNo. Modern Nomad, Here in Heaven, and Meek are amazing places to find vintage goods. The Ruffly Rose on south pearl is the cutest flower and gift shop. I seriously feel so lucky to live in a place with such artistic talent!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business is named after my two grandmothers so family is very deeply ingrained in its existence and success. Sam dressed me up in ballerina costumes, did my hair, and generally encouraged my girly and playful side. Erika was one of the most driven and hard working people I’ve ever known. My friends and family have always supported my wild ideas. I’ve also found an amazing and supportive group of women business owners who let me bounce ideas off of them and encourage me. Thank you to everyone I’ve started a conversation with “can I run something by you?”.
