We had the good fortune of connecting with Mitch Levin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mitch, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I think in order to be successful as an artist you must consistently balance being good at your craft with also be good as a business person .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My fascination with found objects has only grown since moving to Colorado .
I am always excited about the journey an idea takes me on along with the build process. I have no fear of trying something new , fail or succeed the outcome always delivers a win as there is something in creativity that is all about learning new skill sets ! Never easy , being an artist is all about wearing all the hats. Some fit better than others , of course . Im today’s society being an artist isn’t just about the art . Navigating , clients , contracts , finances, shows , galleries and social media to name the ones off the top of my head. It makes artists focus on time to be the biggest factor in a sink or swim economy !
The lessons I feel I have learned that I believe serve me well are … be prolific,
Work every day , try outrageously new things. Don’t follow trends , lead with your heart and creative spirit . Get passed the piece that wasn’t quite right .
Move on , move forward , be part of a creative community . Pass along your knowledge to other creatives .
Value your past work and ideas , as they have made you who your are and what you create .
These are hard ones!
Be present in the moment
Enjoy your work and the process
Don’t let others deter your ambitions

What others should understand about me and my work . It’s not for everyone .
But if it does resignate with you , I hope it stirs your soul, instills a memory or just simply draws a smile to your face !

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live in Boulder Colorado typically , we take visitors up Flagstaff to a look out point the views west to the mountains at Sunset . The drive up the switchbacks is always a wake up call to midwesterners . Also Eldorado Canyon State park is an incredible hike with breathtaking views along the creek flowing thru the center !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Susie has been on this journey from the beginning . Her creativity as an artist and her ability to recognize good design and be decisive about her opinion has given me the luxury of having another artists eye always on my work and equally as talented !
While we may not always agree , her opinion definitely matters .
