We had the good fortune of connecting with Molyan Dery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molyan, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I’ve learned from growing a business is kindness goes a very long way. Be open to taking advice, supporting other entrepreneurs and giving clients your time. Giving your time to someone who values it is an irreplaceable form of kindness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets MOLYAN apart from others is our dedication to quality over quantity, small batch luxury, the design of the jacket, and the unique, vibrant colors of chainstitch. We pride ourselves in our goal of zero fashion waste and giving our client a timeless heirloom piece.

My first career is in anesthesia, and it has been quite the transition to apparel and textiles, but the expression of my creative side has been at the forefront over the last few years. Providing anesthesia to patients is extremely black and white, and not an environment to get creative, and it was time to start accessing my colorful side. It is scary to shift careers into the unknown, but it was time for me to take the risk.

We’ve had many lessons along the way, and I’m sure we will have many more. Staying dedicated and true to the brand makes it all worthwhile.

Our brand is an all female made luxury apparel line made in Texas that promotes individuality and COLOR. Our jacket can be worn by all! Our ethos is based around making our client feel as if they are in a wearable piece of art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Austin, Texas is one of the greatest cities in the country, so this is a difficult question.
All of my favorite places on South Congress to eat, drink, and be merry.
South Congress Stay—–
Stay at the hotel St. Cecilia. enjoy their gorgeous grounds with a pool/margarita day.
Shopping—> Sunroom, St. C gift shop, bygeorge, Maufris, Sabah, Tecovas, Allens boots…basically the entire street!
swing on by to the san jose bar for a charcoal margarita, froze, and delicious snacks.
dinner options nearby: Junes, neighborhood sushi, joann’s, perlas—>
nightlife options:
continental club, C’ Boys, and Egos for karaoke

In my opinion, the biggest must see for a non-Texas is the Broken Spoke.

Lake activities, UT football games, the greenbelt, barton springs, deep eddy, Umlauf, QUESO…. the list goes on and on!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The shoutout list for MOLYAN is loooong! First and foremost, I’d like to recognize my family and friends. Any apprehension I face during the process of building the brand was rejected by my loved ones. They all pushed me in some form or fashion to continue with creating regardless of the speed bumps faced along the way. An apparel brand has a multitude of highs and lows and staying positive and dynamic to change pushes the progress of the brand forward.
We’ve had an outpouring of support from our community from buying products, offering advice, throwing events, social media posts, telling friends, the list goes on and on. We have lots and lots of love for our friends and family.
