We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important thing that I have been taught throughout my career, is that sometimes you just have to jump. Take that leap of faith! I truly believe that when I feel inspired to do something, or when creativity or an innovative idea comes knocking, that if I don’t answer, and agree to take that leap of faith on something I feel called to, or maybe that’s calling to me, that this innovation/creativity, will simply leave, and go knocking on another door. I believe that creativity and inspired innovation is a frequency and that it does not go away simply because you choose not to pursue that idea, but that instead it finds another person who IS willing to take that leap of faith. As an entrepreneur, I’m no stranger to risk, nor am I unfamiliar with feeling unequipped or not “experienced” enough to take on a new idea..you know..imposter syndrome. However, it seems to be that most people feel like this in business, and the crazy thing is, the further up the ladder you climb, the more common it is. So, how do you go about this “jump” when it comes to new opportunities in your business/career? Well, it’s simple, really. If you feel something more calling to you, then just say “Yes.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always loved to create. My favorite part about creation is that no matter how it starts, it is constantly in motion and evolving. When I began putting together the idea for BloomTV, it originally started as a small vlog for flower lovers that I could attach to an online flower retailer, so that their customers would know more about the health benefits, tips and tricks, etc of flowers before buying them. However, today. BloomTV is an online streaming channel where flowers are front and center. Through entertaining shows, we are giving people an inside look at how to cook with flowers, create flower inspired crafts, about the healing benefits that flowers have to offer when it comes to mental health, and everything else flower powered you can think of. The inspiration and planning for this business was easy..that’s my favorite part. The actual materialization and creation however, was a bit harder. When launching this business, I had no funding to put towards it. But, after telling people about the idea, people came running to help. My sister and her boyfriend even flew in from Florida to help film our first videos. Because of that, we now have a beautiful platform and example videos put together that is now helping us to get funding/investors. I think a lot of entrepreneurs tend to get stuck when it comes to funding their new business. However, what I have found is that people genuinely want to help. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP. I think you’ll be surprised to see how many people want to help you and see you succeed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things that Colorado has to offer is it’s magnificent mountains. I love taking my guest out to hike Hanging Lakes and Blue Lake. As far as food goes, Denver does not disappoint. diner and drinks at El Five is the perfect way to stat the evening off, and then finishing at 54thirty’s rooftop bar. If it’s more of a casual night, My Neighbor Felix is one of my favorite spots to grab dinner, especially if you can snag one of the outdoor fire pit seats.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
What I do would not be possible without the incredible support I’ve had from my friends and family. I can honestly say that throughout my life, I have had incredible people telling me about everything that I could do. As a child when I claimed proudly that I was going to be a zoo keeper, a movie star, a straw maker (yes I said that one time..thank you Mr. Rogers), my parents never batted an eye. It was always “Yes, you can become whatever you want.” (Although they were probably hoping I wouldn’t grow up to make straws.). As I got older, I surrounded myself with people who believed in me. When I decided to quit my salaried job during the height of a pandemic to start my own business, I had nothing but support. I’m incredibly lucky, and so thankful for all of the people in my world. I can truly say that without their encouragement, i would not be where I am today.
