We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Brissett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Traveling makes me incredibly happy because it allows me to experience a variety of cultures, meet new people, explore new places, and have the freedom to do whatever I want. I have traveled to places such as Switzerland, Peru, Dubai, Morocco, Thailand, Kenya and more than 20 other countries and cities. During my travel experiences I learn about different cultures and customs, try new foods, and gain insight into different ways of living. I have also made new friends from all over the world, explored fascinating places, and had the freedom to make my own decisions and choices. Traveling gives me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction after discovering a new place, especially the ones that I check off my travel list. It also gives me a new perspective on life and the world, which can be incredibly empowering. All these experiences make me incredibly happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a travel registered nurse and a world traveler. I have been a nurse for 14 years I started out as an LPN and I progressed to become an RN and I currently am getting my masters to become a family nurse practitioner. I love to travel so much and have found a career that allows me to travel to different cities and states. As well as, on my downtime have the possibilities to explore the world. My brand ‘Lilette Luxe’ is a rebrand, of an original brand I created about 10 years ago that was called ‘Lilette Jewelry’. I used to handmake jewelry, such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and many custom pieces, but I eventually put the brand on hold to accomplish my nursing goals. My nursing school journey was tough, I failed out of my first nursing school and had to start all over again. I pushed through that to make it to where I am today. Without the challenges and obstacles, I have faced I wouldn’t be the person I am today so I’m grateful for the lessons, they made me the person I am today. I’m excited to announce the relaunch which will be happening this year. The brand will cater to travel wear, accessories, jewelry, clothing, and a few surprises. Currently juggling work, school and relaunching the business has been an experience. But nothing I haven’t done before, so excited to be using my past lessons and awareness to help ensure my future successes’.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a New Yorker so if my best friend was visiting I would definitely have some activities and restaurants for us to go to. I love interactive museums/ experiences so I would go to an Escape the Room or Spyscape in Manhattan, walk across the Highland Park on a nice day and stop at Hudson Yards for some shopping or views of the city. Head to a speakeasy in the city or across the bridge to Williamsburg in Brooklyn for a rooftop bar experience and good dining restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely would like to shoutout my loved ones and friends who have supported me on my journey. By providing me with support, love and encouragement to make it through all my challenges and obstacles, which have brought me to success and all my accomplishments!
