We had the good fortune of connecting with Monizz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monizz, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a child, I watched my mom perform at events with Mexican Reginal bands. I wanted to be known for my singing like she was. In high school I was assigned to a choir class at Aurora Central, I had the opportunity to learn about music and experience live performances. I felt so attached to music ever since, I then decided to continue my journey with music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
All my emotions and life experiences influenced my music. Every song replays a marked memory of euphoria. Clearly, every artist has their own way of being unique. I believe the diversity in my music has more of an impact to a variety of cultures. For instance, knowing Monizz was noticed and played in different countries hypes me up.
Certainly, anyone who has big dreams knows it’s not “easy”.
However, with discipline, consistency anybody can achieve what they set to accomplish. There’s not a day that goes by without challenges, acknowledging bad habits will help you succeed. If there’s anything I’ve learned, is to believe in yourself and never stop trying. Even when you feel you’re at rock bottom.
I met Jerrish, my main engineer/producer on November of 2018. He invited me to 905 Studios, that was the first time I liked the sound of our work. We then, began experimenting with psychedelics, partying on weekly basis, using that to influence our music. On October 2019, my nephew ADion was born and he inspired me to take control of my life. No matter how I’m feeling, he’s that one little human that completes me, flipping every mood into reflection and happiness.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop when friends visit is Power house gym, most important part of my daily routine. Who wouldn’t like a little kick ass workout to begin the week full of energy. Then, I’m driving us to the Little Brown house, one of my favorite dispensaries here Denver. I love food so much that munchies hit immediately, I would definitely treat my friend to Texas de Brazil, or Pisco Sour. These spots slap at any time, bougie but bomb for sure. My hangout spot is 905 Studios that’s where I get to “B.S” aka brain storm, record, smoke up, admire clothing, purchase local art, and network with .
For the next meal, I would love me some Saucy Southern I’ve never had but looks mouthwatering, I can’t wait till this day comes.
To turn up for the night, beta is definitely the most lit club to go to Thursday-Sunday.
Anybody pulling up for a visit on a summer vacay WE are going on a hike, your two options would be the incline or hanging lake for sure.
During winter aspen is where to be at, specially during X games. Another spot you can’t miss is Glenwood springs, with beautiful thermal waters to relax in cold weather. Last but not least the ice castles, wouldn’t mind stopping on our way back.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first to thank is god, I’m blessed to have beautiful souls in my life. “Thank you, mom and dad”, You’ve taught me everything is possible if you commit to whatever your really desire. Shoutout to every single person I have worked with, from my music engineers, producers, videographers, models, friends, venues, labels and fans. Words cannot express how grateful I am for people believing in me, without any of them what I’ve created wouldn’t be possible.
