We had the good fortune of connecting with More Than Physics and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi More Than Physics, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Clint began drumming in 1990 at the age of 11. Starting with snare drum, he played in high school marching band and then went on to become a professional drummer. He has toured across the United states and shared the stage with many top musicians. In 2011 he started experimenting with the sounds of Handpans. Connecting with Jonathan Sadler transformed the music into what it is today. Their main focus is to bring these unique sounds into a refreshing, accessible realm of human listening.

Jonathan began his musical journey with drums and percussion around age 8, though music has long been an integral part of Jonathan’s life. Growing up in a family of musicians, pursuing music was written in the stars for Jonathan. Being a multi-instrumentalist, Jonathan employs the tools that best fit the job at hand, though he specializes now in Handpan, Tabla and Marimba.

Clint and Jonathan started More Than Physics in 2011 with a desire to create music, inspired specifically by the Handpan. Both of them have been lifelong musicians and have played in a diverse range of bands and projects which have taken them all over the world. They are dedicated, professional musicians who seek to bring people together with music.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
More Than Physics has a performance based set featuring original music. Combining complex rhythms and catchy melodies leads to composed, musical, percussion-based pieces. The audience is sure to be enthralled with the musicality, innovation, and energy of their performance. Having performed together for over eleven years, Clint and Jonathans chemistry is electric and the music flows through them naturally and fluidly.

More Than Physics has also been performing live music for yoga classes since 2011. The set features a loose spacial atmosphere using handpans, marimba, gongs, tabla and bells. Working with a diverse group of teachers and yoga studios throughout the years, they bring experience and dedication to their craft to each class and are able to adapt the music to fit the style and flow of each instructor.

In addition to live music for yoga, More Than Physics has also teamed up with the talented singer, songwriter, yoga instructor and musician, Gitali Tania Alexandra, to host Yoga Sound Journeys at Old Town Yoga Studio. These are an explorative live music asana practice followed by a nurturing extended savasana accompanied by an immersive sound journey. The experience is a truly unique guided journey that is designed to connect the audience to sound and movement. The first half is a practice of accessible to all with gentle yoga movements to expressive melodies. This will help prepare participants body to surrender into an enhanced deep relaxation serenaded by the nourishing vibrations of a 36 inch gong, singing bowls, medicine songs, handpans and more.

More Than Physics has played multiple sets at Arise Music Festival, Shamanic Boom, Pantasia Handpan Gathering, Steel Mountain Gathering, The Otterbox Digital Dome Theatre at Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, The Mishawaka, and numerous other shows along the Front Range. They have also recently been featured on NPR Live Sessions and 88.9 KRFC’s Live at Lunch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Outdoors, all the amazing camping, hiking rivers, lakes, and more would be top of the list. Music would be the next priority. For venues, The Mishawaka, The Aggie, The Atrium, Washington’s, Avogadro’s Number, and The Sundance would be great spots to start. The town has a lot to offer, but if they could come for one weekend, it would have to be FoCoMX. This is one of the best weekends of the entire year in Fort Collins. Hundreds of bands and local music fans come out in large numbers to support this amazing music festival that spreads out over multiple venues and local businesses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to give a shout out to 88.9 KRFC. With the first recording of Live at lunch that we did back in 2012 we were able to jumpstart our project and fund our first album as well as get our music out into the community before we had a full length album recorded. Since then they have been such a great pillar of support for our music scene and we are so grateful to have them! You can check out their amazing Live at Lunch videos and more on their youtube page and among all that great content you can also find our recent session with some brand new music.
