We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Grimm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of advice I don’t really agree with is charging an entry fee for events. A lot of markets do it to cover costs or add a sense of exclusivity, but I think accessibility is important. Keeping the Colorado Makers Market free to attend means everyone in the community can show up, no matter their budget. Another thing I’ve found is that while promoting the market is important, word of mouth has been the real game-changer. Each year, more vendors apply because they’ve heard good things from past events. At the end of the day, it’s all about building a sense of community and connecting with other vendors and market-goers matters more to me, that’s what makes the market special!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It definitely hasn’t been easy—organizing events comes with lots of challenges, from logistics to balancing vendor needs with community goals. But the passion and support from the creative community keeps me going. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that building genuine relationships matters more than a quick win.
What I want the world to know is that the market isn’t just about sales; it’s about real connections, supporting local artists, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. That sense of community is what drives everything we do, and it’s something I’m really proud of!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d kick things off with tacos and margaritas at Vatos Tacos, seriously, you can’t miss it. Then, we’d spend some time thrifting around town, hitting up local vintage and antique shops for some unique finds. A trip to Horsetooth Reservoir is a must, whether it’s for hiking, paddleboarding, or just enjoying the view. We’d also check out some local breweries, hang out in Old Town for some live music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d have to give a big shoutout to the incredible makers, and creative community that surrounds the Colorado Makers Market. The success of the market wouldn’t be possible without their passion, creativity, and dedication. I also want to recognize the City of Fort Collins for supporting us with a space like the Aztlan Community Center. The space has helped create a home for this event!
