Meet MOsley WOtta | Artist, Creative Laureate, Feilds Fellow, Legacy Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with MOsley WOtta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MOsley, what principle do you value most?
The guiding principle right now is that things are actively becoming BETTER THAN I COULD IMAGINE. And that’s good cuz I gotta great imagination. Also it means when impossibility seems like the only option available, the realities involving my “not knowing” becomes a source of calm excitement. That is not to say I don’t feel the pain or confusion, I do. However it also means there is room for much more than my perspective, which allows for a trust and enjoyment to occur… even when it feels like everything has gone to shit;)

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have two projects right now that are buzzin’. One is a series of exhibitions entitled “The Fate of Understanding” a series of art work painted directly onto and into the walls of institutions/galleries/museums. The works are then painted over thus becoming part of the buildings themselves. The second is a series of performances entitled “The unwearable Blackness of being” A collection of stories and reflective conversation with artist and audience. engaging the realities of race and the evolution of our identities. With each project, the painting and the performance I am finding more than a way to make a living, I am finding a way to live my life. This is no small thing.Both projects are require that I work on myself a lot . This is good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spot in the city is my living room and it is impossible to get in… but I know the owner, the food is kinda hit or miss but the atmosphere is amazing and there is always interesting conversation also there is rarely a line for the bathroom and parking is a cinch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
