We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, was that I was ready for a change in careers, but I knew that I wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to make money for myself and my kids. Not for some company that, at the end of the day, can kick me to the curb with no notice. After considering a few other fields, the beauty industry just seemed like a no brainer. There’s a never ending list of services that one can provide in this field, making it exciting and non monotonous. For example, I might have a teeth whitening client one hour, and lash extensions the next.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Damoza Beauty is a product of a single mother of 3, who wanted more time flexibility and financial freedom. I worked a full time medical field job, while simultaneously attending esthetician school 20 hours a week for 7 months. It was not easy, it was physically and mentally exhausting. I only saw my children in the mornings while we were all getting ready for the day. It was a sacrifice, for the betterment of our future. My business is home based, I’m currently working on obtaining or building an add on to my home, from where I can conduct my business. In addition, I do offer mobile services for those who would rather not leave the comfort of their home. I also work around my clients’ schedules as much as possible, therefore, I will work evenings, and weekends when most other establishments are closed. These are some of the examples of what sets Damoza Beauty apart from other establishments of the like. I’m the most proud of the fact that I’ve done this all on my own! All of my family and close friends live 4 hours away from me, and most them didn’t even know that I was doing this until I actually became licensed. I’m just excited for the future of Damoza Beauty! I can’t wait to have my studio ready for business and to just continue to expand and build my clientele!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting my area for a week, I would definitely take them back to the western slope, where I’m from. We would visit the hot springs, maybe tour around Aspen, head back up to Grand Junction to hike the monument, and check out Rifle Falls. We would also enjoy drinks at a few of the local watering holes, and gather with friends and family.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely, my older sister, who is also an esthetician. If it hadn’t been for her, I probably wouldn’t have known the possibilities of what this industry can do for you.
