We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Pitu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Cookie decorating started as a hobby. I wanted to bring cute and delicious treats to my kids school events. I began gifting cookies to my children’s teachers to show my appreciation for all they do. The word started spreading and before I knew it, I had many people wanting to order my custom decorated cookies for their events and asking if I sold them.
That is when I decided to turn my hobby into a business and in the summer of 2015 Mama Pitu’s Cookies was born.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my opinion, I think what sets me apart is the attention to detail that goes into every cookie, from the flavor profile to each individual design. I wanted to make cookies that taste as good as they look. My cookies are handmade in small batches, each cookie set is planned thoughtfully from the colors to the techniques used,
It was not easy. It took a lot of determination to keep progressing and overcome the challenges I was faced with, both personally and professionally. I spent endless nights trying to perfect my recipes and techniques. I started taking cookie decorating classes with various cookie artists to improve and take my cookie art to the next level. Along the way, I’ve learned that you can’t rush decorating, you have to take your time and make sure to enjoy the process.
One of the biggest challenges is moving every few years for the military and having to start all over again at each new location.
What my logo represents is very near and dear to my heart. the two little birds represent my children and the jigsaw puzzle represent Autism Awareness. My children are my motivation to keep improving. I want to teach them that if you work hard and if you are passionate about what you love then the possibilities are limitless.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m fairly new to the are and we’ve only had a chance to explore a few places in the area such as Pike’s Peak, Garden of The Gods, Manitou Springs, Old Colorado Springs, and Phantom Canyon Road.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my husband Marius, who fully supports me and my business, encourages me to stay on track with every new idea I have.
